Dear Recruiter:
Attached is my resume, which I hope you’ll review as you consider candidates for the
position of Estimator.
As my resume indicates, I have over 10 years’ estimating experience, during which time
I’ve developed hard bids and conceptual estimates for projects ranging in value from
$50,000 to $50 million. I’ve also spent several years as field superintendent on a variety
of high profile, difficult projects valued as high as $550 million, and for four years, I owned
and operated a commercial general contracting company.
During a time when every company is being asked to do more with less, I believe I can
add a great deal of value to your estimating organization by drawing on my experience in
all aspects of the construction industry to analyze each project from the perspective of a
company owner, a project manager, and a field superintendent.
• Throughout the estimating process, I keep the perspective of an
owner/department head in mind as I work to identify areas of risk within the
estimate and present identified risk factors, as well as potential solutions, to
senior decision makers.
• From the project management perspective, I ensure that all scope items
within the estimate are covered and that the scope of work included in each
subcontractor’s bid packages is appropriate.
• Using the perspective of a seasoned field superintendent, I analyze the
constructability of the estimate by creating a detailed schedule which
establishes realistic costs for general conditions and concise subcontractor
scopes of work for pricing.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications in person with the
appropriate individuals within your organization. I look forward to hearing from you, and
thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Kirk J. Alcorn
