Barbara A. Bolin is a Senior Project Manager with over 15 years of
experience in technical project management, solution deployment and system
administration.
After majoring in Human Resources and Information Systems at The Ohio State
University, Ms. Bolin joined Arthur Young, now Ernst & Young. While there,
she was tapped by AY Partner Joyce Bennis to help develop the Business and
Systems Introduction to Consulting (BASIC) Training Program, AY's
Management Consulting leadership program through which all of their new
consulting hires were indoctrinated in systems consulting principles and
practices.
An experienced technical educator, Ms. Bolin is also the principal author
of Lotus Notes: The Complete Reference, published by Osborne/McGraw-Hill.

RECENT ENGAGEMENTS
> Chateaux Software - Westport, CT 1995 to present
Barbara provides ad hoc project management and support services to the
Principals at Chateaux Software. From her first engagement, where she
mentored Chateaux's technologists on Lotus Notes, Chateaux has
increasingly relied on her experience in project management and
professional services to improve their service delivery.
Currently, she is supporting Chateaux on a multi-year Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA) program for a leading (US$3B) equipment leasing
firm. Her roles have spanned working with Chateaux management to
improve technologists' responsiveness to changing schedules and
requirements and turning complex technical diagrams into more
accessible (customer-friendly) images.
> Honda Manufacturing of Alabama - Birmingham, AL 2009
Barbara managed the PORD Migration and Metadata Management project for
Chateaux Software. Initially a BusinessObjects report migration
project, this effort encompassed 3 consultants and 2 client employees
working on- and off-site over a period of four months and covered the
implementation of metadata management practices for Business
Intelligence at HMA.
> Honda Manufacturing of Alabama - Birmingham, AL 2007
For one of the world's largest auto makers, Barbara led HMA Program
Management at Chateaux for the AF Spec and AF Quality projects. This
effort encompassed 8 consultants working on- and off-site over a
period of six months.
> Montgomery Ward's - Chicago, IL 1998-2000
Ms. Bolin led the analysis and development team for the implementation
of call center and supply chain applications for Montgomery Ward's
service contract line of business. This multi-year project supported
350 call agents, 1200 repair technicians, 1500 retail associates, 150
warehouse associates and 200 management associates across 60 physical
locations. With an annual volume of 6 million phone calls, 1.5 million
repair jobs were completed, resulting in the movement of $25M in parts
inventory. This effort reduced operating expenses by $3M per year.
> Lexi International, IQI / Aegis Communications Group - Los Angeles, CA
1997-1998
Lexi is a highly distributed organization currently ranked among the
largest teleservices providers with over 2,800 positions and 14 call
centers all over the world. The company offers complete, integrated
marketing services including customer acquisition, customer care and
marketing research to leading corporations. As the Lotus Notes
project manager for Lexi, the holding company that was consolidating
telemarketing firms across the US, Barbara was responsible for all
phases of their Lotus Notes network architecture, design and
implementation from budgeting and planning to design and management.
When completed, she handed over 13 servers located across the world
and serving 1,000+ users. While working on this project, Barbara was
asked by the Director of IT to visit newly-acquired sites and assess
their overall business process. With this information in hand,
Barbara made recommendations to resolve outstanding issues and improve
business processes.
SELECTED TECHNOLOGY ROLES
> Kemper Insurance - Chicago, IL
Member of Lead Notes Administration team for Kemper Insurance. Her
achievements included migrating 104 servers and over 800 users from
Notes release 3.34 to 4.5, testing and helping implement the Notes new
Calendaring and Scheduling features, troubleshooting problems arising
from the 3.34/4.5 server mix, building new Windows NT servers,
installing and then upgrading new users to the production release, and
developing tracking databases that worked well in a mixed environment.
Additionally, Barbara tested installation processes for use in both
shared and local installs, and wrote up the installation procedures.
> SSA Software - Chicago, IL
Primary Notes Administrator for SSA Software, a global software
development and consulting firm. Her responsibilities included
analysis and evaluation of current Notes architecture resulting in the
crafting of recommendations for improving the current software and
architecture. The Notes applications included Standard Notes System
Administration Procedures, Project Management/Task Management
Database, Client and Server Installation Procedures, and a Notes
Client Management Database. Additionally, she performed design reviews
and authored development standards and guidelines.
> McDonald's Corporation - Oak Brook, IL
Senior system administrator for McDonald's Corporation's Lotus Notes
Pilot Project. Her accomplishments included installation, monitoring
and administration of four servers and an initial community of 300
users on laptops and workstations. She also crafted application
development standards and guidelines - key for effective change
management - that saw her group successfully migrate to version 4 of
Notes, while adding an additional 700 users nationwide along the way.
Ms. Bolin was also responsible for the design and authoring of
customized end-user training material - first for version 3 and later
for version 4. She traveled the country delivering this training to
users from each of the customer's 42 regional offices. Her training
program employed a leading-edge mobile training facility - one that
reduced the cost per student to less than half that of traditional
venues.
> Ralston Foods - St. Louis, MO
Chief Notes Consultant to the Customer Development Group at Ralston
Foods, Ralston-Purina's branded and private label foods spin-off.
While there Ms. Bolin developed, deployed, and provided crucial
support for integrated applications systems ranging from a $10M budget
performance system and mobile computing applications to a near-1GB
artwork tracking database used for managing the development of
customers' private label products' packaging.
Her Notes-based applications were credited by top management with
facilitating a smooth transition and first year of independence. Barb
personally trained top management including the company's president,
executive vice-president, five zone vice-presidents and sixteen
regional managers. She was also responsible for the introduction of
Lotus Notes to - and the training of - the company's external food
brokers nationwide. This served to further integrate her client's
sales operations, in the process enhancing the value chain. She also
evaluated, contracted, and managed outside Notes developers.
Senior Consultant to Ralston-Purina. On applications spanning
Microsoft Windows, OS/2, and DOS Barbara's achievements included
contracting classroom space nationwide, overseeing equipment
transportation, setup, and the scheduling of regional training
seminars. She performed site visits to 5 regional offices to install a
key corporate application and effectively developed and delivered
advanced field training to 150 of the division employees in its field
force.
Additionally, she provided supplemental training for Microsoft Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint, and for Lotus Organizer. Lotus Notes training
included remote office access management. She was also responsible for
maintaining the issues log, tracking enhancement requests, and
providing on-going application support to region offices. Proactive
problem resolution practices she spearheaded included the design of
system test scripts and their use against bug and enhancement "fixes"
prior to the implementation of each new release.
> Firestone Tire and Rubber - Chicago, IL
Deployment Consultant to Firestone Tire and Rubber in the aggressive
rollout of its 1600-store UNIX/Oracle to CICS/DB2 integrated WAN
application. This ambitious system encompassed point-of-sale support,
order processing, inventory control, purchasing, distribution, in-
store daily profitability analysis, management reporting, marketing,
sales and demand forecasting and all major financial applications.
UNIX systems hosted Oracle databases, had a SQL*Forms front-end, and
communicated via Pro*C through SNA/LU6.2 and CICS to DB/2 on MVS
providing real-time access to enterprise data. As one of the first
three Help Desk employees when roll-out began, Barbara's
responsibilities included establishing the system's help desk and
crafting support practices, training the client's permanent help desk
employees, providing on-site training, producing the daily call report
statistics, and assisting in debugging the product.
SELECTED VOLUNTEER PROJECT MANAGEMENT ROLES
Based on her previous experience, Ms. Bolin was asked to implement
better control and execution processes for the local elementary
school's annual fundraiser, a student walkathon. Through her process
redesign and execution, the school was able to double their previous
years' gains with fewer people despite the implementation of greater
financial controls. The event raised $10K more than expected.
Ms. Bolin was asked to manage a neighboring school system's annual
fundraiser, which was built around an auction. Her leadership led to
the school raising double their previous years' returns. The event
raised $20K, which allowed the school to continue programs that would
otherwise have been cut.
