COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
During my 16 years as a stay at home mom and dedicated housewife I was
anything but removed from situations in which I was able to utilize and
expand my business and interpersonal relationship skills. I will spotlight
2 of the many programs and activities I was involved in as examples of this
practice in action.
Farmington Elementary -PTA Board Member for several years as a volunteer
coordinator. I set up an extensive database (Filemaker Pro) of my 800+
parent and community volunteers. I not only filled the existing needs for
volunteers that were set in place but prior to my efforts Farmington
Elementary had no after school programs or clubs. I recruited parents to
volunteer to lead afterschool groups such as - chess club, gardening drama
etc. Today Farmington offers a large number of afterschool options for its
students. I also implemented a parent tutoring program where I would
schedule volunteers to work with the school to help children who were
struggling in various areas.
Swing for the Cure - Organized and oversaw a very successful softball event
that raised $10,000+ dollars for a man with cancer. This was done through
silent auctions, t-shirt sales, a home run derby event and an appeal made
through various print and radio media
