Hello my name is Kirra Chevalier. As my resume reflects, I am
currently working towards my Early Childhood Education Certificate. I am
taking my first 3 classes at the Anaheim Campus.
I have been volunteering at Advantage Foster Family Agency since I
was 16 years old. I love working with young children, and feel I have a
natural gift for helping young kids gain self-esteem, confidence and a
sense of belonging. While volunteering I have baby-sat foster and
biological children from 1-5 years of age, taught arts & crafts and worked
at many different foster family functions.
This summer I took a leave of absence from my job at Ralphs to go on
a 10-week mission trip to India with a non-profit organization called
Pioneers. I chose this trip as the main focus was going into villages and
schools in the remote Himalayan Mountains to work with the children and
their parents. It gave me a whole new outlook on the beauty of children as
well as their basic (but critical) social/emotional needs.
I work approx. 24 hours a week at Ralphs where I am responsible for
many duties but primarily my job is Customer Service. I have learned how
to deal with difficult situations in a very busy store. I love having
contact with the customers and making them know that they are valued by
Ralphs. I believe working at this job for the past two years has given me
valuable experience that will be beneficial when I am working with children
and their parents in the future. I have learned how to keep myself busy
when the store is slow and jump right back in as soon as we are busy. I
have learned how to deal with customer's complaints and also to help make
the cashier's job easier when they are busy. While I am thankful for the
job experience I have received while working at this store, I am looking
forward to working in the area that I am studying.
It is and has been my goal to gain a deeper understanding in the field
of childcare and development, and to play a role as encourager of each
child's exploration of his/her value as well as the value of those around
them.
I would love the opportunity to speak with you in person regarding
your job as a Teacher's Assistant. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Kirra Chevalier
