As a Patient Services Assistant in the Emergency Room At the VA Medical
Center in Gainesville, FL., I was part of the front-line contact with patients and
their families as well as outside physicians and the general public. While working
with the Patient Advocates Office under the Compensated Work Therapy
Program for one year, I was successful in my daily personal contacts be it face to
face, telephonic or written, with a wide variety of individuals from all walks of life,
I am intuitive to demonstrate sensitivity, empathy and appropriate responses to
questions or complaints, concerns and opinions while displaying responsibility
and support to the veterans, their family members or representative, clinical and
administrative staff who may seek my help.
Use Vista application and CPRS software in performing my daily duties and
responsibilities, Vista for appointment management, registration and bed control
(admissions).In CPRS I research medical records and extracted a variety of data
relevant to processing Veterans and their application for medical benefits.
Use Microsoft Word for drafting all types of communications, appointment letters
and memorandums. I have experience with computers to collect and analyze
data using charts and graphs and preparing reports.
While working in the Emergency Room at the Veterans Hospital in Florida, my
duties were; admissions (bed control), registration, eligibility, During my time I
completed all courses required to become a Certified Benefits Advisor. I also
worked with travel to arrange transportation for patients and distribute travel pay.
I have personal knowledge and experience with the Health Insurance Portability
Act of 1996 (HIPPA), conducted record reviews and have personally processed
Release of Information and Freedom of Information requests. I have experienced
many JCAHO and mock JCAHO inspect and have become familiar with their
standards and know what is expected.

While at the Pediatric Specialty Clinic as an office representative, one of my
primary duties was scheduling a high volume of appointments for twelve
specialty clinics through telephone or personal contact
.
Worked closely with doctors and nurses to assure a smooth flow of patients.
As a ward secretary I gained knowledge and experience with the HIS (Health
Information Systems) program and IDX as well.
Knowledge of an extensive range of principles, rules, procedures, methodology,
and special requirements of each ward unit.
I also worked the front desk of the clinic, checking patients in and out, and was
responsible for coding some procedures. Another of my duties was maintaining
the medical records, ensuring that the documents filed in the charts followed
proper protocol.
I became familiar with the spelling and meaning of medical terminology as I
transcribed doctors orders in the nurses charts, entered labs and radiology
orders in the computer and other diagnostic procedures.

Experience with budgeting techniques and principles while managing several
food operations, (52 Enlisted Club at Camp Pendleton 1989-1991, also Club
Sport Health Club in Pleasanton, CA. At that time I was responsible for
inventory, purchasing, reconciling funds and preparing proposed budgets.
As manager at these facilities I made work schedules from anywhere between
25-30 employees, as well as processing time sheets.
I worked with vendors and promoters to set up events at the clubs. Ran and
directed military functions, such as Marine Corps Mess Nights or banquets in the
Officers Mess.
