Experience 06/2004 - Current United States Coast Guard
Topeka, Ks
Supervisor - Chief Warrant Officer Jason Benbow
Yeoman Third Class
While working as a Yeoman Third Class at the Coast
Guard Personnel Service Center, Topeka, Kansas, it
is my responsibility to examine travel vouchers that
come into the Travel Division.
I verify that the vouchers contain all appropriate
signatures, including but not limited to any
approving official signatures.
I verify that all the necessary supporting
documentation is included with the voucher.
I verify that the appropriate per diem allowance is
used by comparison with Coast Guard Travel Voucher
instructions.
I verify that the travel orders included are
accurate and complete. My responsibilities also
included performing a variety of office automation
and clerical functions.
I utilize Microsoft Office suite for word
processing, Excel software, and other types of
office automation software.
I am required to contact customers by phone or
electronic mail when there is a question on their
travel voucher. Questions range from verification of
travel dates, mode of transportation, lodging rate,
lodging dates, number of dependents, missing or
incomplete forms, supporting documentation, etc.
I contact customers when examination of a travel
claim proves to be fraudulent, requesting the
supporting documentation so that verification of
entitlements can be performed.
I utilize electronic email to request additional
supporting documentation necessary to process travel
claims.
I am responsible for creating, editing, retrieving,
manipulating and printing files that the auditors
utilize to approve travel claims.
I research travel documents submitted from the field
for special projects for fraudulent submission of
travel compensation.
My responsibilities include the examination of
documents for accuracy and proper justification,
making sure that the correct travel regulation
guidelines are used.
I utilize the Federal Travel Regulation (Civilian
Travel), Joint Travel Regulation (Military Travel)
and any Coast Guard supplemental instructions to
assure proper completion of travel vouchers are
followed.
My responsibilities include researching the
financial database complied for travel claims.
I specifically research the database to see if a
member has delinquent travel claims pending before
processing the newly submitted claim.
My responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
inputting financial transactions into the system
utilized for travel claims.
I daily contact customers to resolve travel claim
discrepancies and explain to them why their voucher,
or a portion of the reimbursable expenses are being
denied. I explain to them if submission of
supporting documentation would result in the
reversal of the decision.
My responsibilities include training junior yeoman
in the proper use of financial databases, accurate
completion of travel orders received from the field
units, proper use of supporting documentation,
office software used by the Travel Branch, proper
use of travel regulations including correct codes
and amounts.
