While working as a Yeoman Third Class at the Coast

Guard Personnel Service Center, Topeka, Kansas, it

is my responsibility to examine travel vouchers that

come into the Travel Division.

I verify that the vouchers contain all appropriate

signatures, including but not limited to any

approving official signatures.

I verify that all the necessary supporting

documentation is included with the voucher.

I verify that the appropriate per diem allowance is

used by comparison with Coast Guard Travel Voucher

instructions.

I verify that the travel orders included are

accurate and complete. My responsibilities also

included performing a variety of office automation

and clerical functions.

I utilize Microsoft Office suite for word

processing, Excel software, and other types of

office automation software.

I am required to contact customers by phone or

electronic mail when there is a question on their

travel voucher. Questions range from verification of

travel dates, mode of transportation, lodging rate,

lodging dates, number of dependents, missing or

incomplete forms, supporting documentation, etc.

I contact customers when examination of a travel

claim proves to be fraudulent, requesting the

supporting documentation so that verification of

entitlements can be performed.

I utilize electronic email to request additional

supporting documentation necessary to process travel

claims.

I am responsible for creating, editing, retrieving,

manipulating and printing files that the auditors

utilize to approve travel claims.

I research travel documents submitted from the field

for special projects for fraudulent submission of

travel compensation.

My responsibilities include the examination of

documents for accuracy and proper justification,

making sure that the correct travel regulation

guidelines are used.

I utilize the Federal Travel Regulation (Civilian

Travel), Joint Travel Regulation (Military Travel)

and any Coast Guard supplemental instructions to

assure proper completion of travel vouchers are

followed.

My responsibilities include researching the

financial database complied for travel claims.

I specifically research the database to see if a

member has delinquent travel claims pending before

processing the newly submitted claim.

My responsibilities include, but are not limited to,

inputting financial transactions into the system

utilized for travel claims.

I daily contact customers to resolve travel claim

discrepancies and explain to them why their voucher,

or a portion of the reimbursable expenses are being

denied. I explain to them if submission of

supporting documentation would result in the

reversal of the decision.

My responsibilities include training junior yeoman

in the proper use of financial databases, accurate

completion of travel orders received from the field

units, proper use of supporting documentation,

office software used by the Travel Branch, proper

use of travel regulations including correct codes

and amounts.
