RE: Contract Assistant
To Whom it May Concern:
Thank you for taking the time to review my resume. With the current state
of the job market, I assume you will see
many. Therefore, I will do my best not to sound redundant. Resumes and
cover letters have the tendency to all blur together, but I am not a person
that blends in with the crowd. The most valuable personal assets I can
provide your company is energy, enthusiasm, creativity, and a willingness
to take on challenges. All of which, I will now attempt to demonstrate
through words and accounts of my personal experiences.
In college, I majored in music and business. I also earned a paralegal
certificate and a minor in pre-law. My first
love is definitely in the creative fields, but my passion for learning and
curiosity of regulatory practices brought me
to a career in the legal profession. During my education I held several
positions including managing a Lehrer's Flowers. Working at Lehrer's during
Valentines' Day provided an invaluable life experience and skill to problem
solve during stressful, overwhelming situations all on less than four hours
of sleep. (We worked from 7 a.m. to
midnight during the week of February 14th) Managing several equally
exhausted employees while ensuring flower orders were designed to the
satisfaction of the customer while handling all existing managerial duties,
in a chaotic environment, gave me the confidence and ability to create
order in any situation. I also worked at a high volume
bar on 16th Street in Denver, so there isn't very much that surprises me.
Even in times of stress, a job must be done. Mistakes happen, but there are
always solutions.
I also held an internship at Crescendo Artists booking agency in Boulder.
Although it was an unpaid position, I
found myself performing duties similar to that of Contract Assistant. I
organized, maintained and electronically tracked contracts between venues
and artists. I am proficient in entering contract information into a
database. Many times, I would edit and proofread content so that it met
satisfactory requirements. I also requested and tracked payments on behalf
of the artists from unpaid venues. I have no problem calling anyone to
request a payment. Many music venue owners are rude and at times seem
arrogant, however, they too are only people. People who did not pay the
artists we represented.
Since my graduation, I perform freelance legal research and writing
services for Stephen Replin, a local
entertainment attorney, for a book regarding legal and business topics for
Fashion Designers. I am very familiar with the Copyright law, (especially
its limitations for the fashion industry) and contracts assigning rights
for
copyrighted works. I have filed copyrights several times through the U.S.
Library of Congress and am very familiar with the process.
I believe strongly in the legal rights of the creative minds. Ultimately,
I plan on attending law school to further my
career in helping artists succeed. Because I believe so deeply in the
cause of the artist, I will work hard to effectively implement those
rights. It is my cause, I am passionate. I hope to meet you in person and
show you directly, the skill and passion I possess.
Thank you for taking the time to review my qualifications. My references
are available upon request.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Gibbons
