analyzing causal factors and root causes for incident releases and
injuries.
K&H Industries / Power Electronics & Control Systems Lab, Buffalo, NY
Aug '04 - Feb '06
Position: Research Assistant
. Assisted Engineers at K&H industries create One line diagrams in SKM
used for Arc Flash Hazard Analysis calculations and sketched One Line
diagrams in AUTOCAD.
. Set up experiments to study the effects of aging on incandescent,
fluorescent & compact fluorescent lights with DC input using prototyped
full wave bridge rectifier and compared results with AC Voltages to
analyze differences for completion of Master's thesis.
. Verified existing calculations used in IEEE standards for Rerated
luminous intensity, Rerated life & Rerated current at different Voltages
for both DC & AC Voltages.
. Calculated energy savings made using compact fluorescent lamps versus
traditional lamps
. Addressed major challenges faced by DC power in the 21st Century
pROJECTS cOMPLETED
Load Flow Algorithm:
. Implemented Newton Rapson method to compute bus voltages, real and
reactive power balance, and impedance matrix by solving non linear
equations using MATLAB.
. The minimum or maximum of the function can be found by finding a zero in
the functions first derivative.
Electric Motor Design:
. Simulated the rotor and stator design of a three phase induction motor
by setting parameters for specifications of 500 W at 1500 RPM with a
useful control range between 150 RPM to 5000 RPM with a power efficiency
of atleast 70 percent using RMxprt motor simulation software.
. Designed and simulated power driver circuits for unity power factor
operation, gate drivers for switching of all inverter IGBT's and avoiding
