Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka Japan
Prior to his retirement from the US Navy, Mr. Long was stationed at
Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka Japan (CNFJ). His duties as the
Leading Petty Officer included managing the day-to-day operations of 10
enlisted personnel in performance of his duties as the coordinator for the
local base television station and weekly news paper.

Afloat Training Group Western Pacific
Prior to his assignment at CNFJ, Mr. Long was an instructor at Afloat
Training Group Western Pacific teaching and evaluating Operation
Specialist, Sonar Technicians, and prospective Surface Watch Officers the
tactical and technical applications of Anti-Submarine Warfare. He was
responsible for all technical and tactical updates of course material for
that course, Radar Navigation (RAP), Search and Rescue (SAR), Joint
Tactical Interoperability Development Systems (JTIDS), and any other CIC
watch standing stations as directed by the commander. Mr. Long and a team
of instructors ensured that all forward deployed ships were properly
trained in all facets of these vital shipboard functions prior to
deployment. Mr. Long provided point papers listing
any changes that were necessary for course improvement.

Prior to his assignment at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific, Mr. Long
served aboard Commander Destroyer Group Fifteen (CDS-15) from 05/99- 12/02,
USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) from 05/98-05/99, USS Mount Vernon (LSD-39) from
04/95-02/96, USS Kinkaid (DD-965) from 03/94-04/95, Fleet Combat Training
Center, Pacific from 09/9-02/94, USS Okinawa (LPH-3) from 03/89-08/91, and
USS Sterett (CG-31) from 12/86-02/89. During that period, he performed
duties that included Divisional Leading Petty Officer where he supervised
day-to-day actions of 40 enlisted personnel, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)
Instructor, Combat Information Center Watch Supervisor (CICWS), Harpoon
Engagement Planner and Operator, Track Supervisor, Tactical Information
Coordinator (TIC), ID Operator and Tactical Flag Command Center (TFCC)
Operator. This service included Persian Gulf deployments during Operation
Earnest Will, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi
Freedom during war time events and peacekeeping missions.

During summer school vacation, Mr. Long has volunteered to coach youth
sports here and abroad including baseball, football and soccer. In
addition he has volunteered time helping out with the under privileged
collecting equipment and uniforms for their use during sporting events.
