WORK EXPERIENCE
MEDLAB- Columbus, OH (November 30, 2009 to April 12, 2010).
Operations Manager. I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of
this business unit. I managed five Supervisors, and up to fifty Techs,
Processors, and Phlebotomists. This operation provided Laboratory testing
and Phlebotomy services for over one hundred Nursing Care facilities.
Interstate Bio-Blood Components- Columbus, OH (June 2, 2008 to October 23,
2009).
Q.A. Coordinator. I reviewed paperwork for various Plasma Center
activities including Donor charts, Auto-C Plasma Pheresis Instrument logs,
Specimen and Product Shipment Manifests, and Freezer and Refrigerator
Temperature Logs. I worked along the side of Donor Processors and
Phlebotomist to ensure that they performed their duties in a compliant
manner, and arranged for re-training when non-compliance was observed. I
released soft-goods to the Plasma Pheresis floor in a FIFO order, to ensure
proper usage.
Honda of America-Marysville, OH (March 17, 2008 to May 30, 2008). Adecco
Service Department Associate. I performed various types of service on
Honda vehicles for the Company vehicles and those of other Associates.
This was a temporary position with full-time hours.
Nationwide Children's Hospital - Columbus, OH (March 31, 2007 to August 31,
2007). Temporary.
Information Specialist - Biopathology Center.
My primary responsibility was sending Patient files to Fireproof for
imaging, and then indexing these files when they were returned on CD, to
allow BPC personnel and Researchers to search for cases related to the
Researcher's area of interest. I worked with scanning and indexing of
current files, including writing procedures and collaborating practices. I
spent some time scanning slides on the Aperio Virtual Microscope, to
convert standard microscope images to a computer-based format that could be
stored in a data base and sent over the Internet.
Mount Carmel West Hospital- Columbus, OH (May 1998 to April 2006).
Interim Phlebotomy Supervisor- February 2006 to April 16, 2006. I
Supervised 23 phlebotomist. Hire, train, evaluate, schedule, and payroll.
Bench Tech-March 2005 to February 2006. Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry,
Blood Gases, and limited Blood Banking. Specimen Processing Coordinator-
May 1998 to March 2005. Oversee Lab Assistants. Evaluate, train. Handle
problems with mishandled specimens and provide corrective measures. Lab
Safety Officer. Assisted with inventories and inspections. Attended Lab
Manager/ Supervisor meetings. Six Sigma Participant.
Quest Diagnostics, Inc.- Columbus, OH (October 1994 to February 1998).
Customer Support Manager- November 1996 to February 27, 1998. I Managed up
to 19 employees in Specimen Processing, Data entry, and Client Service.
Hire, train, evaluate, discipline, and payroll. I wrote complete Procedure
Manuals for each of my three departments. Several times we were Corporate
Leader in fewest send-out errors. Safety Officer, and trainer for
employment-related issues. Previously a Client Service Representative, and
Nite Hematology Technologist.- October 1994 to November 1996.
The American Red Cross- Columbus, OH (April 1992 to October 1994).
Chief of Quality Control- Responsible for the QC of all products
manufactured by the American Red Cross Blood Services as mandated by the
F.D.A. Responsible for the periodic maintenance and QC of all
instrumentation used in manufacture and testing, with the exception of EIA
equipment manufactured by Abbott and serviced by contract. Responsible for
testing and validating all equipment repaired, before placing it back into
service. Responsible for the calibration of all clocks, thermometers,
centrifuges, incubators, refrigerators, freezers, cell washers, waterbaths,
and pipettes. Responsible for testing all Blood Bank reagents prior to
making them available for use, and removing reagents upon expiration.
Initially, a Staff Technologist, responsible for performing EIA Testing for
Transmittable disease markers, and blood typing and antibody screens.
Newcomb Medical Center- Vineland, NJ (September 1990 to April 1992).
Evening Hematology Tech- I was primarily the Evening Hematology
Technologist. I performed cell counts, and differentials on blood and
other body fluids. I performed Coag testing, and Urinalysis. I performed
occasional phlebotomy and instrument repair.
Coulter Electronics, Inc. - Edison, NJ (February 1988 to August 1990).
Field Service Engineer - I was responsible for the repair and maintenance
of Hematology instrumentation. I installed instruments and trained
Customers in their use. I troubleshot problems with quality control and
reagents. I performed Car Stock inventory and Expense Reporting.
Columbus Children's Hospital- Columbus, OH (December 1977 to February
1988).
MLT in Hematology- I spent the first year on the "Stick Team", performing
pediatric phlebotomy procedures on Inpatients. We also performed Sweat
Chlorides on Inpatients and sent out specimens to Reference Labs for tests
that were not performed at Children's. We also performed Urinalysis at
that time. After the first year, I moved to Hematology where I performed
CBCs and differentials, Body Fluid cell counts and differentials, and
Urinalysis. I assisted with Bone Marrow Aspirations and stained and
coverslipped the slides. I covered the Out-Patient Clinics, as well as the
Heme/Onc Clinic when normal staff was not there.
Marion General Hospital- Marion, OH (August 1974 to December 1977).
MLT - Primarily in Histology- I was initially a generalist. I primarily
worked in Histology, processing, embedding, cutting, staining,
coverslipping, and labeling specimens from Surgery and autopsies. I
prepared, stained, and coverslipped cytology specimens. I performed
Special Stains, most of which we had to develop ourselves because they were
not done prior. I assisted with Bone Marrow Aspirations and stained and
coverslipped the slides as well as form a block and cut and stain slides
from the block. I assisted with autopsies and performed photography.
