Enterprise Shipping Component (ESC) is a struts based web application
developed for 3M MES. It receives customer orders from the Corporate Order
Management System (COMS), routes the order, plans the shipment, and
generates picking documentation.
Presently, ESC provides capability to generate 20 JSP based reports which
obtain data directly from online transaction database. ESC is interested in
moving their reporting system to the 3M Global Reporting Platform that uses
Business Objects as a reporting tool. The new ESC Global reporting Data
Mart is that it should be able to leverage the data available in the
Operation database to provide the best BI solution for ESC business users.
ESC data mart should be a shipment centric data warehouse enabling business
user community to create a Global reporting environment to address the 3M's
shipment reporting needs. The existing ESC reporting capabilities should be
retained in the new ESC reporting environment. The business user community
can create their own Business critical report through the Global Reporting
Environment without any technical support. Leverage the data from external
systems (COMS, iMES) by integrating with the Business Objects Universe
created by those applications
