WORK HISTORY
Patient Business Associate: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Boise, ID,
Oct 2002 - Mar 2009
I was a member of the Patient Registration Services team. My main
responsibility involves interviewing patients and family members to obtain
and record accurate registration information in various computer
applications in outpatient registration, pre-registration, and the
emergency room. I am also directly involved with other patient business
associates, providing initial and continuing education. I provide
support to physicians and clinical staff, both within St. Luke's and at
other facilities, in various manners: preparing patient charts,
coordinating patient services, arranging transfers between medical
facilities, and working with the internal departments of St. Luke's to
provide outstanding patient care. I handle confidential information in
accordance with federal regulations (HIPPA) and provide front line customer
service for patients and families with a variety of developmental, socio-
economic, and cultural backgrounds. I work with various ages, genders,
cultures, and learning styles. I help reduce anxiety and stress to the
patients and family by demonstrating an attitude of acceptance, caring, and
sensitivity. I handle multiple phone lines, fax and copy doctors' orders
and send them to the appropriate location, and contact insurance companies
in order to obtain pre-certifications for patients' procedures.
Insurance Verifier: St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, Boise, ID, Oct
2002 - Jan 2007
In this position I was responsible for verification of eligibility and
benefits for inpatient and outpatient pre-certifications. Other
responsibilities included documentation and management of patient
information within various health information computer applications. I also
reviewed accounts for accuracy of insurance plans and information, reviewed
benefits to determine eligible coverage and need for additional funding,
and covered various areas of Patient Registration as a Patient Business
Associate as needed.
