To Whom It May Concern:

I respectfully submit my application as a Psychology Human Resources

Associate at your company.

In 2009 I graduated from Haverford College, an academic institution of

the most rigorous nature (consistently ranked by US News & World Report as

a Top 10 Liberal Arts College). I earned a B.A. in Psychology, having co-

authored one psychology paper currently under review for publication, and

executed an additional independent senior thesis project on

psycholinguistics. I was employed as a work-study Project Assistant at the

Humanities Center for the duration of my time at Haverford, facilitating

the execution of Humanities-sponsored exhibits and projects, and networking

with other offices.

In January of 2010, I was hired for a competitive position as a

cognitive research specialist with the University of Pennsylvania, where I

have spent the last nine months working on an intensive research project

with the Department of Defense. As part of this project, a team of other

cognitive psychology researchers and I are currently living on a US Army

post on Hawai'i, where we are executing a 5-month data collection and

analysis phase, and are on schedule for completion within a time-sensitive,

pre-deployment Army schedule.

An essential element of the project is the individual interaction with

Infantry soldiers. The participants' motivation to perform and succeed at

the various psychological tasks is critical to successful data collection.

As a result, I am required to identify motivational factors and skills

within moments of meeting an individual participant, and engage them on

these factors as a means of motivation. As a whole, this project requires

effective interpersonal communication skills, strong perceptive and

analytic capabilities, as well as the ability to work efficiently under

pressure and within non-negotiable deadlines.

The upcoming completion of my project allows me to pursue career

opportunities in applied psychology, and I see working within your field to

be an attractive challenge. As a Human Resources Associate, I will apply

the psychology experience and rigorous analytic thinking I've gained as a

student and researcher to the thoughtful consideration of candidates

against a detailed framework of client needs, and in doing so help to make

the clients' employee base as productive and competitive as possible.

Ultimately, as an entry-level associate, I hope to further develop these

skills under the guidance and direction of your company, and make you

similarly more competitive in talent analysis.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to the

prospect of meeting with a representative in the future to discuss possible

employment opportunities.

Sincerely,

Brian T Lakey
