Administration responsible for CLIA and COLA compliance. Provided
operational setup, regulatory compliance support, surveys and program
development. Provided consultation for laboratory safety, quality
assurance and regulatory compliance. Responsible for monitoring quality
control in the laboratory.
2010-11 Senior Scientist General Dynamics IT
Provided laboratory services to the Naval Medical Research Unit in San
Antonio (NAMRU-SA) at the Institute for Surgical Research (ISR).
Accomplishments included development of a large animal model for biomedical
research related to trauma and injury, laboratory management, and writing
SOPs and research proposals. I was also responsible for establishing new
laboratories, securing equipment and supplies, writing new research
protocols, preparing animal care reports, and all general research and
laboratory management duties. Composed proposals for surgical procedures
on large animals for research purposes. Blood samples were analyzed for
both nucleic acid and protein data.
2008-09 Scientist I Hyperion Biotechnology
Principal Investigator, responsible for supervising laboratories and
laboratory staff. Specifically responsible for organizing animal surgeries
for research protocols, blood, tissue, and microbial and blood chemistry
sample analysis, data collection, data analysis, results reporting, and
scientific writing. Responsible for all results analysis and reporting.
Worked countless hours in operating rooms and designed operating rooms for
work conducted in pressure chambers. Studies were performed at Brooks City-
Base with funding from U.S. Air Force Aerospace medicine grants.
2004-08 Lab Supervisor/Lead Microbiologist CDC/DHS
Served in public health, clinical LRN laboratories at the Florida State
Department of Health. Duties included the examination and identification
of sample specimens using the latest technologies in molecular biology,
microbiology, virology and chemistry. I received recognition and training
from CDC and the Florida State Department of Health for my work and I was
offered a supervisory position and transferred to San Antonio, TX where I
organized, started and supervised a new, high-complexity laboratory at
Brooks City-Base for San Antonio Metro Health District. All duties were
performed in cooperation with local, state, and federal agencies and under
a plethora of guidelines and regulations including COLA, CLIA and BMBL. I
served on large and small committees that included top supervisors from
around the state and country. I also attended meetings and conferences
around the country that were related to clinical testing, biotechnology,
bioterrorism, and laboratory safety and management. Laboratories were under
the ownership and guidance of the San Antonio Metro Health District where a
multitude of clinical tests were conducted. I served as Responsible
Official (RO) and assisted in managing other clinical labs in the absence
of Metro Health managers.
1996-04 Research Fellow University of Illinois
(Reproductive Endocrinology) at Urbana-Champaign
Conducted laboratory research studies in the field of reproductive
physiology. Duties included teaching surgery to graduate students,
developing cervical fibroblast cell lines, maintaining cell cultures,
developing steroid capsules for use as subdermal implants, and managing
laboratory safety issues such as toxic disposal and radioactive waste.
Carried out all blood, cell, tissue, and organ analysis for data collection
and results reporting.
