My philosophy about my role as a teacher:
I believe that my role as a teacher is to know each student and the way that they learn and, try to
offer different aspects of teaching. An educator should allow children to feel comfortable and
have complete trust in sharing their problems. A teacher should not only be there for educational
support, but also for emotional support.
“The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil. Students learn what they care about, from
people they care about and who, they know, care about them…” Barbara Carson, 1996, Thirty
Years of Stories.
I believe that learning should be fun and at the same time challenge them to think. A child needs
more then just someone standing in front of them telling what is right and wrong. Children need
to see and experience different concepts to let them come to an understanding on their own.
Knowledge cannot be forced on them, but directed.
” Too often we give out children answers to remember rather than problems to solve” Roger
Lewin
I believe that a teacher should build and keep strong working relationships with parents and
colleagues. Teachers and parents should have a strong communication relationship in regards to
their children’s education and needs. A teacher should reflect with colleagues to share ideas and
experiences with in the classroom, so that all can learn from each other.
In conclusion children are not only learning from the teacher, but at the same time, the teacher is
learning from the children. Every child is significant and unique. Teaching is my passion. As a
teacher I know the impact that I make in these children’s lives. That is why I strive to incorporate
all of my beliefs in my classroom because it is such a huge part of who I am.
