Montana Pain Initiative Strategic Plan, including

Advocacy, planning, organizing, and convening the annual
face-to-face meeting, as well as monthly telephone
Committee meetings and providing follow-up reports, working
with the Executive Committee, writing grants and garnering

evaluating the changes in the Child and Family Service
policies and procedures that facilitate moving children to
permanent placements within one year, and writing reports.

supervising administrative support and graduate students,
developing and monitoring budgets, and oversight of the day-
to-day functions. Project responsibilities included Co-
Directing Montana Welfare Reform Evaluation. Primarily
responsible for the social research component. Specific
activities included reviewing literature on policy
evaluation of social systems, developing and evaluating
research plans, developing and testing evaluation
instruments and training materials, training and technical
assistance, analyzing data, writing interpretive reports,
progress reports, and manuscripts for publication.
Additionally, responsible for assisting with the
facilitation of Advisory Councils and Task Forces serving
the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services,
assisting with grant writing, and assisting with other
projects of CGS as needed.

utilizing cognitive-behavioral and behavioral treatment
strategies for helping people with disabilities prevent and
manage secondary conditions of spinal cord injury and other
physical disabilities. Specific activities included
administrative (e.g. budgeting, overseeing personnel,
collaborating with service agencies, meeting reporting
requirements, etc.) as well as research duties (e.g.,
interviewing subjects, preparing regional surveys, writing
intervention materials, designing outcome measures),
developing and evaluating the "Living Well with a
Disability" 8-week workshop and self-help manual.

Contracts Awarded
Between July, 2007 to the present have been in a contract
relationship with the American Cancer Society to coordinate the Pain
Improvement Partnership project, and to be the Program Director for the
Montana Pain Initiative. Contracts totaled $112,868.
Between September 2004 and November 2007 was awarded three contracts
through Touchstone Consulting to conduct Internet research on end-of-life
data resources and populate the EDELE (Epidemiology of Dying and End of
Life Experience) national database; analyze qualitative and quantitative
evaluation data of an Indian Health Services regional training on end-of-
life palliative care; and co-write "The Dying Process: A Guide for
Caregivers" to be published by the Hospice Foundation of American.
Contracts totaled: $25,000
Between October, 2002 and May, 2004 was awarded 16 contracts through
the Robert Wood Johnson Rallying Points Program to assist 16 community end-
of-life coalitions to design and implement community-level research
projects and then presented these results to local targeted audiences.
Contracts totaled: $162,600.
Grants Awarded
From June, 2010 to the present raised fund through grant writing,
donor request, and exhibitor fees to implement the 4th Annual Montana Pain
Initiative Conference "Navigating the Complexities of Pain:
Interdisciplinary Strategies." Fundraising will continue through October.

donor requests, and exhibitor fees to implement the 3rd Annual Montana Pain
Initiative Conference: Practical Approaches to Managing Pain. $33,200
Between June and August, 2008 raised funds through grant writing,
donor requests, and exhibitor fees to implement the Montana Pain Initiative
Second Annual Conference "Pain Management Policy and Practice: A Balanced
Approach. $25,450
In December, 2008 played a lead role in the development of a grant
that was awarded to the Montana Pain Initiative of the American Cancer
Society. This grant was awarded by the Montana Attorney General Consumer
Settlement Advisory Council to organize and conduct the 3rd Annual Montana
Pain Initiative Conference and to carry out the work of the three Standing
Committees. $67,000
In April, 2007, played a lead role in the development of a grant that
was awarded to the Montana Pain Initiative of the American Cancer Society.
This was a State Pain Activity grant from the ACS Cancer Action Network to
revise state regulations regarding pain management policy, and organize and
conduct the Initiative's second annual conference titled: "Pain Management
Policy and Practice: A Balanced Approach." $12,000
In September, 2001 played a lead role in the development of a grant
that was awarded to the Missoula Demonstration Project: The Quality of
Life's End (MDP). This grant was awarded by the Department of Commerce,
National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Technology
Opportunities Program to develop and evaluate a community-owned, community-
based web site repository for advance health care directives that makes
these documents available twenty-fours per day. $923,500
In May, 1999 played the lead role in the development of a grant that
was awarded to the Missoula Demonstration Project: The Quality of Life's
End (MDP). This grant was awarded from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
(1999-2000). The purpose of the grant was to continue MDP's community-wide
research and demonstration project by further analyzing data from 12
different studies, publishing the results, providing technical assistance
to other communities who wish to replicate MDP's research, and conducting a
strategic community engagement process to improve the quality of the dying
experience in Missoula County, Montana. $699,000.
In February, 1998 submitted a capacity building grant for the Montana
Psychological Association (MPA) to the American Psychological Association.
This grant allowed MPA to continue employing an Executive Director, hire a
lobbyist, fund three student chapters of MPA, and conduct a membership
campaign. $15,000.
In 1996 played a significant role in the development of a grant
proposal that was awarded to the State of Montana. This grant was awarded
from the Centers for Disease Control (1996-2001). Its purpose was to
develop and maintain the Montana Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection
Program. $6,000,000.00
In June, 1994, The Kellogg Foundation awarded the Montana Adoption
Resource Center (MARC) a grant to assist me in the data collection
procedures of my doctoral dissertation, titled Risk Factors Association
with Adoption: A path analytic model suggesting causal relationships
between risk, family environment, child symptoms and service needs.
$25,000.
In 1992 played a significant role in the development of a grant
proposal that was awarded to the Rural Institute on Disabilities at the
University of Montana. This grant was awarded from Environmental Health
and Injury Control of the Centers for Disease Control (1992-1994). Its
purpose was to develop and evaluate a risk assessment tool for secondary
conditions, as well as a community-based intervention for helping people
with spinal cord injuries living in the community to reduce the incidence
and severity of secondary conditions. $430,000.
