Dear Human Resources Personnel:
It is with great enthusiasm that I am submitting this letter and my
application for your open human resources position. I am a graduate of The
Ohio State University - Fisher College of Business, earning a BSBA with a
specialization in Human Resources.
This position is a perfect fit for me for many reasons. As outlined in my
application and resume, I have experience with the majority of the job
duties before, such as providing excellent customer service and
administrative support, organizing logistics of events and performing human
resources duties. This will allow me to start making an impact in this
position quickly with less training.
My past positions and college experience have provided me with excellent
time management and multi-tasking skills. I managed jobs, classes, holding
offices in my sorority and membership in The Ohio State University Marching
Band all at once. While working at Humacare, orientations and job fairs
were often held in the evenings after a full day of work and class, which
required me to budget my time and resources a few weeks in advance. These
activities took up much of my time and required careful planning in order
to ensure all my responsibilities to work, school and organizations were
met. Due to this, I am skilled at creating schedules for both myself and
others and ensuring deadlines are met.
Giving guided tours of a cave and presenting orientation training to
Columbus Zoo employees has given me the opportunity to interact with people
from all across the world. I am skilled at interacting with groups of all
ages and sizes. These experiences, combined with my current OSU job where
I regularly interact with faculty and staff campus-wide, would be a great
asset to a position where professional communication skills are very
important to ensure success.
I possess excellent organizational and event planning skills, having
coordinated events for organizations such as Serving with Honor, Tau Beta
Sigma, and The Ohio State University Marching Band. One of the first
events I helped coordinate was also one of the largest; in 2006 I
coordinated over 250 volunteers from all across campus to help set up, take
down, and guard the first display of pinwheels on campus for The Pinwheel
Project, a statewide effort which creates awareness of child abuse in Ohio.
I also enjoy learning new skills and regularly take the initiative to teach
myself new things in order to improve the efficiency and quality of my
work. Recently, I taught myself how to use Visio and Adobe Acrobat. Both
programs have been implemented into my work at ODNR and I have used them to
make our Table of Organization easier for others to read and navigate and
to create a searchable database of all past discipline.
My dedication and passion for this field would show through in my daily
work and allow me to contribute great things to your company. I would like
to meet with you to discuss how I can help build and maintain relationships
with employees and clients at your company. Please feel free to contact me
if you need any additional information, and I look forward to hearing from
you.
Sincerely,
Erin Bowns
