Experience

December 2004 – August 2010 Bronson Healthcare Group

Information Technology, Network Systems Manager

The following are the technology areas I was responsible for:

Intel Server systems Windows and Linux, Directory Services, Virtualization, Remote application

management (Citrix).

Enterprise Server systems HP UX and AIX.

Enterprise Storage – All types including a SAN with Fiber channel, network attached storage, archive

storage, and back ups.

Networking – Wired, WiFi, Internet connectivity, and Network Security.

Client Engineering – PC OS build and deployment, application deployment, application and OS ptching,

hardware standards, anti virus, email systems.

Telecom – Centrrex wired phones, Cisco WiFi VOIP phones, Vocera VOIP badges, Octel voice mail, and

Cisco Unity voice mail.

Teams that I also managed as the needs of the department changed:

Interface team (recent edition) – eGate by Sun Microsystems.

Operations (2 times totaling 3 years) – One primary production Data Center, One Disaster Recovery Data

Center.

Account Administration team (1 year) – Provision and de provisioning of users accounts of Directory

Services and applications that have separate user administration. Management of user access to network

shares.

IT Asset Mgt (1 year) – Ordering and receiving of all software and hardware. Management of all hardware

and software disposition at Bronson.

Successfully directed and delivered critical projects to completion on time and budget. Examples:

Novell Netware and GroupWise upgrade to version 7.

Replacement of Novell Zenworks with Microsoft SMS 2003.

1. Standardized application packaging utilizing the Microsoft starndard with MSI.

Installation of the Airespace wireless network

1. 3 years later a complete over haul to Cisco Wireless network.

Implementation of VMware and practice to virtualize all systems capable. Currently 1/3 of Intel based

servers are virtualized.

Complete overhaul and replacement of power and cooling systems for our primary Data Center while

continuing to provide 24 hour a day services until a planned outage for cut over to new systems.

Migration of entire network from Nortel to Cisco. Completed in two projects.

1. First project replaced the network core and server switches.

2. Second project replaced all edge switches.

Completed firewall replacement from Cisco Pix to Cisco ASA.

Storage vendor consolidation from EMC, StorageTek, and NetApp to just EMC for all tiers of production

storage..

Replaced all tape back up storage to complete disk based storage with automated off site replication.

Successfully negotiated and entered into a Microsoft Enterprise Subscription Agreement which allows for

the following projects to be done in 2010 and 2011.

1. GroupWise to Exchange 2010.

2. Office 2000 to Office 2010.

3. SMS 2003 to SCCM 2007.

4. Terminial Services from 2003 to 2008

5. Conversion of Octel voice mail to MS Office Communication Server

Replaced Spectralink Wireless phones and infrstructure to Cisco Wireless phones.

February 2003 – December 2004 Bronson Healthcare Group

Information Technology, Client & Server Engineering Team Leader

Provided daily direction to a 7 person team comprised of 4 Intel server engineers, 3 client engineers.

This team was responsible for the following:

Novell Netware 6.5, Novell GroupWise 6.5, eDirectory 8.7.

Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000 Server, and Active Directory (version 2003).

File & Print sharing which is completing migration to Windows 2003 in May ’04.

Linux RedHat Server.

Successfully delivered critical projects to completion on time and budget. Examples of these include:

1. Upgrade Novell Netware from Netware 4.x & 5.x to Netware 6.5 and eDirectory to 8.7.

2. Upgrade Novell GroupWise from 5.5 to 6.5.

3. Upgrade Novell ZENworks for Desktops from 2.2 to 4.0.

4. Upgrade Windows Active Directory infrastructure servers from 2000 to 2003.

5. Added redundant infrastructure for Citrix server farm.

6. Completed the deployment of Windows 2000 Pro to approximately 1200 PC’s which included

new hardware to approximately 725 PC’s and memory upgrades to the remaining (I

augmented my team with contract labor to complete this large project). This project was

finished 3 month’s early and under budget.

7. Since the 2000 deployment was finished early and the budget money was available, this team

then proceeded to inventory all Bronson owned campuses, deploy the new Novell client &

ZfD agent, w2k SP 4, standardize MS Office versions, standardize PC naming, remove IPX

network protocol from all print servers. This was completed in 3 months.

8. Redesign the GroupWise infrastructure to handle future growth by separating key services

onto to their own servers. This improved stability and performance.

9. Deployed new ER clinical application called HMED by A4.

10. Limited Deployment of Tablet PC’s in Critical Units and tested by Physicians for use during

rounding.

11. Deployed GroupWise via WebAccess to all clinical, custodial, and facilities personnel so that

every Bronson employee (full time, part time, and volunteer) has access to organization wide

communication. By utilizing WebAccess instead of the full client for these employees, we

were able to realize a savings of approximately $50.00 per mailbox in yearly licensing costs.

September 2002 – February 2003 Calvin College

Computer Information Systems, Technology Integration Specialist

Point of contact for one third of education departments & back office staff for new technology requests.

This included gathering requirements, assisting with research and choice of vendor, and implementation.

Responisble for application deployment utilizing ZENworks 3.2, PC imaging development & maintenance

with Powerquest’s Deploy Center.

PC hardware & software lifecycle management for the client environment.

Provided hands on mentoring & coaching of part time students.

This was a temporary transition job to care for my family until I could find a long term position after being

laid off from Haworth.

Enterprise Information Technology, Technology Engineering Supervisor

Managed PC support technicians for corporate offices that covered approximately 2700 end users. This

team was responsible for 2nd level support of the following:

PC Operating Systems.

Software locally installed, eg; Netware Client, MS office, MS project, e mail client, etc.

Hardware support, including diagnostics and repair of desktop PC’s (Laptops were repaired by vendor).

Printer support and diagnosis (vendor did hardware repair).

Wireless network client devices such as terminals, barcode scanners, etc.

E mail system (GroupWise).

Novell’s ZENworks for application deployement and client policy management.

Standards ownership for NDS and file server directories as it relates to the enduser, eg., container and

object placement and location for managing enduser files and rights to the system.

Wireless computing for manufacturing utilizing LXE (this included both the infrastructure and clients).

Anti Virus for all platforms (clients, file servers, SMTP scanning).

Network based client faxing.

Client Operating Systems.

PC OS build standards and PC build image maintenance.

Application deployment to all clients.

Personal productivity software standards, eg; MS Office, MS Project, Adobe Acrobat.

Successfully delivered critical projects to completion on time and budget. Examples of these include:

Member of oversite committee for the migration from Novell to a Microsoft enterprise solution. This

included replacement of NDS, NetWare file and print, and GroupWise with Microsoft’s Windows 2000

Active Directory, File & Print, and Exchange 2000. Two of my staff members were part of the 4 person core

engineering team creating the design and building the test and production environments.

Managed the global migration from Computer Associates InocuLAN antivirus to Network Associates

McAfee VirusScan, including the implementation of the E Policy Orchestrator.

Directed and managed a Single OS client build utilizing Windows XP. This was cutting edge technology

development.

Directed the design for an e mail infrastructure stability project.

Directed the implementation of Novell application and client management solutions (ZENWorks) to 20

Manufacturing and Distribution locations in North America.

Planned and directed the move from outsourced client hardware repair to an inhouse, corporate managed

team of technicians. This included the development of a parts crib and warranty repair work on desktop

PC’s.

Primary resource for Oracle client requirements and deployment planning for an Oracle datebase upgrade

in the ERP project.

Developed and Institued a PC recycling program that reduced our storage overhead and yearly waste costs.

Maintained 100% voluntary employee retention.

Provided network, server, and client connectivity support in a NetWare 3.12 & 4.11 and Windows NT 4.0

Domain in a 1000 user environment. This consisted of 35 Netware servers and 14 NT servers on a WAN that

spread from as far North as Sault Saint Marie, MI to as far South as Niles, MI.

Was part of a two man team that built and managed the PC build image for all Michigan locations.

Managed contract labor for Exchange, and NetWare file and print server support. This was for staffing

augmentation when needed.

Engineered the client\server environment for new customer service call center. This included server builds

and client image engineering.

West Michigan contact for Corporate migration of Netware file and print services from NetWare 3.12 to

4.11.

August 1995 – March 1997 Great Lakes Bancorp

Help Desk Analyst/Supervisor/Network Analyst

Held the above three positions during my time at Great Lakes Bancorp. Below are few items summarizing

Provided network, server, and client connectivity support in a NetWare 3.12 environment over a Token Ring

Network. Clients were DOS, Windows 3.11, and Windows 95.
