EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
Clemson University Seneca, SC -- August 2008 to December 2009
Applications Analyst II
. Supported mainframe-based Medicaid claims system for the State of
South Carolina (MMIS); also exposed to the eligibility system
(MEDS) and handling of feeds coming in and out for providers and other
payors, and to the actual payment run process.
. Worked with various kinds and levels of claim adjudication changes
and corrections, including changes to eligibility codes and rules,
special program membership eligibility and payment levels, procedure
code handling, rules on procedure code frequency and
combinations, special surgical rules, procedure bundling, etc.
. Worked to implement or modify special state programs such as those
for extended coverage, e.g. the SCHIP program for newborn
care.
. Researched and clarified requirements written in varying levels of
detail, researching to determine what programs in the system needing
updating, the flow of data and adjudication logic, where and how data was
stored in the IDMS database etc.
., Made the necessary modifications and designed testing in
coordination with the State's Medicaid business team (DHHS),
generating test cases by a variety of means; executed the test cases
(usually via partial or complete claims adjudication test trails).
. Validated test results thru system output reports and examination of
output data files, as well as by viewing claims online..
. Used COBOL, JCL, IDMS (with screens in ADS), IBM utilities, SQL and
SAS; also used MS Access for data analysis including job schedule and
JCL member list reconciliation.
Management Decisions, Inc. Greenville, SC -- August 2007 to February 2008
Contractor
. Worked in mainframe production control, maintaining job and report
schedules and distribution using Control-M/O/D. Also learned CA-ESP
scheduling product to which client is converting. Used JCL and some
COBOL, TSO EXEC/CLIST and REXX, MS Access with SQL for data analysis
and validation.
Marketplace Staffing Services Greenville, SC -- May 2007 to August 2007
Consultant
. Worked with MS Access 2003 and Excel to analyze, transform, clean,
and report on parts sales data and common characteristics for a
consolidation project. Generally, data arriving from other sources was
staged in Excel, analyzed and transformed manually (including use of
filters etc.), and when in an appropriate state, loaded into Access
tables. Further analysis and modification was done in Access if
necessary using manual examination and queries. Then used Access query
and report objects to generate reports showing common patterns in
parts characteristics. After the business analyzed these reports,
tables were prepared with values indicating which parts were to be
eliminated or replaced by other existing parts. Then wrote additional
queries and reports to structure this data by customer and current
part number, showing the old and new components of parts assemblies,
along with the old and new cost, price and gross margin figures.
Because of the logic required (e.g., correlating old part numbers with
their replacements and also including unchanged parts in the report),
I had a series of nested queries to associate and array the data as
needed for the final report.
Heavy use of SQL joins, etc.
Core IT Staffing Columbia, SC -- July 2006 to March 2007
Senior Contractor
. Worked with JCL, Endevor, COBOL, APS, IMS, VSAM, DB2, CICS, SyncSort,
Eztrieve, MAX for development and maintenance of health insurance
processing systems. This involved analysis, understanding and working
with eligibility and claims data from various phases of the processing
cycles, locating change points in APS/COBOL and JCL, determining and
executing test cases, etc. Most extensive project involved tracking
the flow of optical data image records from various sources out of the
claims cycles and into and out of a common repository using a DB2
tables as the master index, with SQL for data validation, and
involving setting up of many data control checkpoints. Interacted
with analyst via Visio charts, etc.
Management Decisions, Inc. Greenville, SC -- April 2005 to June 2006
Senior Contractor
. Worked with JCL, Endevor, Control-M, COBOL, VSAM, DB2 with SQL
queries and updates, CICS, FTP, DFSORT, Eztrieve, InSync, Tracemaster
for development and maintenance of Supply Chain systems. This involved
understanding and working primarily with the tracking and analysis of
inventory and related data at various stages of the resource flow. The
most unique project involved scheduling of jobs to receive and forward
order data across disparate hardware/software platforms from points of
sale at various times during the day. Presented solution proposal to
interested parties for validation.
MetLife Greenville, SC -- to September 2004

and at times for prototype data setup.
. Served as technical lead on integration of client/server databases /
processes with SQL Server 7.0/2000 using stored procedures, Avenue CRM
package, MS Access; this included using Access as a data staging tool
to extract, correlate, transform/clean, and update data from disparate
sources including csv files, Access tables, and SQL Server tables and
produce a financial data file for the datamart. This involved the use
of macros and queries to determine the data completeness and
integrity. Used Crystal Reports to generate reports from Access and
SQL Server databases.
. Helped lead planning/prototyping on a multi-platform integration
project involving mainframe COBOL, Clipper, a vendor insurance
package, and interfaced w/Java, MQ Series. Developed and presented
diagrams of proposed solutions.
