I started with APCI in 1978 as a lab technician in Long
Beach, CA and in 6 months rose to production supervisor / lab
technician. I worked in this position until 1990 when I
transferred to Chicago, IL as an Assistant Plant Manager
eventually becoming Plant Manager in 1998. In August of
1999, I was asked to concentrate on the important areas of a
new consolidation effort for the Company. This effort was to
streamline and improve product quality, and delivery to World
Class levels in a Center of Excellence in Chicago, IL, which
would be the main center of blending of gaseous mixtures for
the entire North American continent for APCI. This was an
initiative to improve ROI which followed 5 other plants being
merged into my plant.
1978 - 6/2000 Plant Manager, Air Products and Chemicals Inc.
Important contributions:
Designed and implemented new product lines for Long Beach, CA plant (
$400K)
Designed and implemented new product lines for National sales. ($2MM)
International training and technical assistance. Trips to Korea, Brazil,
and Mexico.
Assisted in countless sales operations: training of sales force, customer
training, assisted in sales presentations to customers, safety
presentations, and safety walk-thrus.
Provided technical assistance to many production facilities in APCI.
Operated one of the larger APCI cylinder plants with an excellent safety
record.
Managed Administrative, Production, Laboratory,
Shipping/Receiving/Warehousing, and Customer Service Departments for two
plants with full budget responsibility.
Designed and implemented new safety training approaches.
Participated in strategic planning and direction for the national Specialty
Gas operations department.

Analyzed various raw materials used in the plant, as well as
non-routine analyses needed. Utilized Atomic Absorption, Gas
Chromatography, Infrared, X - Ray, Ultra-violet and light
transmission equipment.
Important contributions:
Reduced rejected product by perfecting a light transmission device to graph
the glass surface.
Reduced rejected rear window defroster failures by initiating a repair
method.

Responsible for setting up and equipping a gas lab. Did
analytical chemistry on gases of standards accuracy.
