Lawn Tech

My duties as a lawn tech with Trugreen were as follows. I typically started my day bright and early in

the morning ensuring I had functional aerators for the day. I never left the office without two aerators. I

made sure I had at least 15 bags of grass seed. Then I would go in the office with all the other

technicians to get our schedule of houses and businesses for the day. Once I received my schedule, I

focused on the square footage of grass that needed to be treated for that house or business. I also

checked the pricing for each house or business for the day. Each week we worked for basic pay and

commission checks. I was paid a commission check if my prices exceeded my weekly goal. I enjoy

extra money just like the next person so exceeding my numbers where a goal of mine. Once I arrived

at my first house, I would offload an aerator, observe the yard, then began aerating the property. I

would operate my aerator like I do my lawnmower, aerating in many different directions, until the yard

was ready for seeding. The aerator would create holes in the soil and causing air and water to reach

the roots of your soil to ensure the health of your soil and grass. I would then attach my seed sprayer

to my body using two bags of seed to spray over an average yard. I would place a completed form on

the customer door if they’re not present, and schedule their next appointment. I would then load my

truck and drive to my next appointment for the day. (Contact Supervisor: Yes, Supervisor's Name:

Satellite Tech

I began this job about three months after separating from the Air Force. It was my first real job and I

enjoyed every minute of it. I would begin my day by inventorying my equipment daily. I made sure to

have the appropriate tools and parts, so that I could assemble and mount my satellites. I made sure

to have enough feet of cable cords, so I wouldn't have any issues with mounting or placing cords

throughout the houses. I accessed the houses and surroundings upon arrival. I would look for trees

around houses. I would check for existing cables or satellites. I knew that mounting a satellite on the

house was out of the question, if they were surrounded by trees. I would not be able to catch a signal

or the best signal with the trees surrounding the house. Placing a satellite on a pole would be my only

or best option. My next objective was whether I would be drilling holes in the house or if the house

was already cable ready. Cable ready means cable cords were already visible. If cords where present

I would just replace the old with the new. When there wasn’t a blockage of trees, I would climb my

ladder and mount satellites on the sides of homes. I wanted to ensure that my customer had the best

picture possible, so I strived to establish the best signal possible before I completed the connection

process. So after I connected the satellites and picked up the best signal, I would test the signals on

every TV( up to four). Making sure every room had the same signal. Then I would program the

remotes for each room. I made sure they all functioned properly. I then educated the customers on

their remotes and new satellite programming before departing. I would do four to five installations a

day with up to two service calls a day. With service calls, it was primarily problem shooting.

Customers would call into the office if they had lost a signal or couldn’t figure out their remote, or just

couldn’t get their channels to operate. These were quick jobs most of the time, but sometimes you

had to really think like your satellite to actually get the problem solved. Being able to solve their

satellite issues kept many satisfied Direct TV customers.
