Professional Experience
US Census Bureau, San Jose, CA (Asst. Manager for Technology)
2009(2010
A division of the US Department of Commerce, the US Census Bureau is
responsible for collecting and providing relevant data about the people and
economy of the United States.
. Organizing the entire office with the right talent, equipment, and a
team (of 75) ready to roll on a short runway was mission critical.
Took charge and managed all IT and Systems for the San Jose office.
Supervised office staff to sustain hardware/software performance.
Evaluated, analyzed and ran operations to support the
payroll/personnel, asset management, and the control systems for paper-
based operations. Assumed responsibility for managing the Livescan
fingerprinting equipment and process. Also, managed office security,
emergency evacuation plan, and new-hire EEOC training. Was awarded a
bonus for under-budget operational costs.
. Before full deployment proposed a plan for a comprehensive load test.
Organized the overall plan, including how each employee (35 total)
would carry out a detailed script to complete the load test, ending in
trouble tickets. Uncovered many performance issues with all
applications and identified software bugs, gaining valuable insights
about the network and hardware response, team performance, and
managerial support during peak times. All deficiencies were corrected
for full operational readiness within one month.
Sun Microsystems, Santa Clara, CA (Oracle Applications Consultant)
2009
Placed by SmartERP Solutions, an IT Staffing and Consulting Company, at its
client, Sun Microsystems.
. During the critical cut-over of the Oracle ERP version from D3 to D4,
supporting all customers with the agreed-to SLAs was critical.
Supported existing Oracle Applications security group administration
for users worldwide. Supported pre-production efforts for upcoming D4
release with a comprehensive plan that focused on ultimate customer
satisfaction (9,000 globally). Effectively maintained a gatekeeper
matrix and a user access template to enable application security setup
information to be uploaded to the database accurately. Ensured JIT
account creation to facilitate quality assurance and successful pre-
production testing for the cutover.
Symantec Corp., Sunnyvale, CA (Oracle Applications Consultant)
2006
Placed by Park Computer Systems, an IT Staffing and Consulting Company, at
its client, Symantec.
. As Project Release coordinator for Oracle Financials' one global
production release during the highly visible Symantec-Veritas post M&A
integration, hosted daily checkpoint conference calls and facilitated
communication for a global team of Business Analysts, Systems Analysts
and Operations Support Analysts in Springfield (Oregon), Pune (India),
Dublin (Ireland), Florida, Cupertino, and Mountain View. Migrated
change requests through development, quality assurance, pre-
production, and ultimately to production, on schedule for cutover,
despite rampant organizational confusion during structural changes.
Performed project tracking against the baseline project plan to ensure
successful completion and released all commitments on time.
Sun Microsystems, Santa Clara, CA (IS Software Engineer)
1996-2000
Sun was a $11B/Yr. providing enterprise computers, components, software,
and IT services.
. For accurate billing and AR transactions, up-to-date foreign-currency-
exchange rates (FCER) identical to the ones in the Corporate Treasury
were critical. Sending manual emails with ongoing changes in FCER
created both delays and confusion. Designed, developed, released, and
supported an application that instantly published FCER company-wide.
This new application supplanted manual/delayed messages with messaging
system for data exchange and transfer already in place, but not used,
resulting in AR providing accurate status/billing. Received bonus.
. To complete the integration of Oracle A/P in the emerging finance
infrastructure, with disparate elements, one critical need was an
ignored report for Goods Received, Not Invoiced (GRNI). Took charge
and developed the needed GRNI Report as part of an A/P deployment that
integrated information from several non-Oracle systems to one Oracle
System. Worked alongside EDS consultants to refine
technical/functional specs and delivered the report on schedule,
saving nearly $100K, in EDS billings. Received a bonus for outstanding
contribution.
. Despite the new A/P in place, the individual check reconciliation for
each bank was done manually. Piloted for one bank with a small check
volume an automated system. After nailing down the requirements
designed/implemented the module and successfully tested in the ops
environment. Once proven, it was expanded to all banks, saving time,
effort, and errors.
Oracle Corp., Redwood City, CA, (Technical Analyst)
1994-1995
Oracle ($8B/Yr) is the world's largest enterprise database provider,
including ERP systems.
