Oct. 1983 CDS Des Programmer

to Moines, Analysts,

Dec.1990 Iowa Data Base

Analysts,

Business

Function

Analyst,

Technical

Analyst.

SYS38

Operator.

Migrated from S370 Operator to SYS38 Operations to AS400 COBOL Programmer

DB Analyst2. Was promoted to a COBOL programmer as essentially learning on

my own how to apply my MVS COBOL skills and apply them to accessing

multiple Iseries or AS400 Db files and at 1st creating functional reports,

cutting the processing time of an existing set of audit informational

reporting hodpog of loosly tied together data manipulation commands/tools.

This saved much time and created reliability and ease in generating this

information to be viewed regularly by management. Management took notice

and obviously was pleased. I was immediately promoted to programmer

analysts from the desk top support department. COBOL essentially being my

1st HLL language ingrained in my skillset, I quickly started designing

complicated interactive/subfile multi-display data maintenance and order

processing transactional programs. Including CL, PF, LF, QRY, CMD, Etc and

all related tools. I got very good at AS400 programming during this tenure.

CDS also sending me to COBOL classes and technical conferences to further

my understanding to increase my ability to design COBOL programming

solutions for the ever growing Hearst Fulfillment divisions. COBOL is a HLL

that will for all time be ingrained in my skill-set.

1982 to Oct 1983 RUAN TRANSPORT IBM 370 Computer Operator

Des Moines, Iowa

Worked on rotating Shifts, Nightly Batch cycles to Daily System

Maintenance. 90+% devoted to IBM 370 but had some of earliest or 1st

introductions to (PRIME) midrange systems during tenure. Although obviously

not a popular system. As I have not had the exposure to a PRIME system

since.
