Project Manager
For the last 30 years I have been employed by Delphi Packard (formerly a
division of General Motors), I have held a variety of positions; all in
Engineering or Supervision. My initial assignment was as Materials Engineer,
where I was responsible for the formulation and processing of automotive
ignition cables. I spent 5 years in the Quality/Reliability organization
qualifying equipment for production, writing specifications for quality
testing and I was divisional representative for quality product design at four
vehicle assembly plants in Lansing, MI. As an Industrial Engineer/ Supervisor,
I was responsible for creating self-managed work groups of about 400 hourly
employees for manufacturing of automotive component assemblies. I am a
certified trainer for Covey Leadership and have completed six sigma
certification for the last 4 years. The remainder and the majority of my
career at Delphi has been as a Product Engineer/ Supervisor. In this
assignment, I designed and managed prototype, pre-production and
implementation phases of electrical systems for several vehicle programs for
all US and several Japanese automobile manufacturers. As a Product Engineering
Project Manager, my responsibilities were coordinating engineering team
activities including receiving and interpreting customer design, establish
timing and cost information, and evaluating and tracking product changes. As a
Product Engineering supervisor, responsibilities included interviewing,
hiring, training and assessing employees as well as discipline. I also had
input in promotion and reassignment of subordinates. I was responsible for
managing a $5 million/year budget in a departmental area of 240 engineers. A
portion of my time was allotted to creating and conducting departmental
training classes. (Contact Supervisor: Yes, Supervisor's Name: E. Thomas
