Safety Storage, Inc is the premier manufacturer of custom engineered pre-
fabricated portable hazardous storage buildings. These buildings are
required to meet FM/UL/EPA code approvals and are shipped throughout the
world. The production process includes fabrication/machining, welding,
electrical and plumbing component installation, painting, general
labor/assembly, as well as indirect labor functions including maintenance
and shipping and receiving. Safety Storage is a government contractor and
as such, the HR department is required to assure the company is in
compliance on employment laws in order to continue to be awarded government
contracts.
List of Responsibilities;
. Responsible for recruiting, staffing, succession planning and retention
for all positions, including hourly production and office staff as well
as upper management staff. Currently in process of succession planning
for the upcoming retirement of the CFO. Also, currently in process of
developing a new org chart for the Engineering department including
hiring a Structural Engineer, Professional Engineer, Engineering
Manager, Materials Manager and a CAD drafter. Turnover rates have
decreased every year since I have been employed in HR, due, in part, to
a complete change in the hiring process.
. Develop, plan and conduct training and development for new and existing
employees, including supervision and management. Training and
development topics have included; motivating employees, selection
screening, union avoidance, harassment and discrimination, employee
development, and employment law.
. Research and analysis of administrative programs, KPI's and policies.
This included creating job descriptions for current and new positions,
creating an employee handbook, developing and maintaining the
Affirmative Action Program, assuring compliance as a government
contractor, revising the employee attendance policy, the perfect
attendance plan, and the new employee orientation. KPI measures
include OT percentage, dollars produced per payroll dollar spent,
turnover, and dollars produced per direct labor hours input.
. Strategically budget funds for Human Resources department, including
new and current employee compensation, training and development,
employee welfare and all employee benefits.
. Develop and communicate policy updates and changes to all employees.
Work interactively with wage employees by attending safety meetings,
conducting weekly plant walk thrus, conducting new employee
orientations, communicating any policy changes to all staff, and
developing a strong mutually rewarding working relationship with the
production employees.
. Develop and maintain AAP and all OFCCP compliance materials. Have
performed internal audits of the AAP plan and have overseen an onsite
OFCCP audit.
