BACKGROUND SUMMARY
Project Manager / Senior Mechanical Engineer. Extensive experience in
product design and development, manufacturing process development, product
test and failure analysis, customer and supplier relationships. Seeking
professional position to develop and manufacture electro-mechanical
products and processes.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
YUREKA ENERGY (Start-up company) Pleasant View, Utah. October 2008 to
present
Developing patentable ideas to make solar energy more cost effective.
Developed prototype parabolic dish mirror and produced multiple watt power
from concentrating light onto 1X1cm cell. Developed unique method for
producing parabolic trough mirrors and set-up research facility to collect
and store heat from troughs built using off the shelf components (pumps,
valves, programmable timers and thermostats)
LIFETIME PRODUCTS Clearfield, Utah Freeport Center October 2003 to 2008
Senior Development Engineer. Completed and introduced three new table
designs to production, two in China in one in the US. Major design work on
Lifetime's innovative garden sheds using blow molded plastic panels
allowing expandable modular construction. Updated folding chair for lower
cost assembly and improved styling. Several patents pending. Mentored
junior engineers and built up their abilities and confidence.
LUMENIS Salt Lake City, Utah October 2002- May 2003
Sr. Manufacturing Engineer (contract). Responsible for manufacturing
improvements to laser head build area. Increase efficiency and error proof
processes by working with assembly workers and developing proper methods
and tooling.
3COM BUSINESS CONNECTIVITY COMPANY West Valley City, Utah 2000-2002
Senior Component and Manufacturing Engineer. Responsible for reviewing all
new mechanical designs for dimensional integrity and manufacturability.
Responsible for specifying and assuring all custom tooling of mechanical
components and assembly equipment is ready for production. Enabled
transfer of production capability to contract manufactures in China and
Mexico. Received Patent for "Surface Mount Stand-off "device.
BOURNS SENSORS / CONTROLS DIVISION Ogden, Utah 1983-85 & 1993-2000
Staff Process Development Engineer / Project Manager
Lead design modifications on sensitive customer issues and enabled Mexican
production plant to continue meeting shipments through quick response and
solutions to design problems. Lead manufacturing process development for
high volume automotive sensors and implemented automation of appropriate
manual assembly operations.
* Brought assembly scrap rate down from 120,000 to 17ppm while ramping up
from 300 units per week to 80,000, by determining and eliminating potential
causes of failure through: failure analysis, designed experiments and
proper interpretation of SPC data. Received the Ford Q1 award for 1995-97.
* Provided manufacturing process development and cost analysis for a
proposed steering sensor project which halted further spending on the
project, saving the company in excess of $2million.
* Developed a complete production assembly system under QS9000 guidelines
for a throttle position sensor which uses a new magnetic field non-
contacting technology.
* Developed and installed production tooling for lead forming and ultra-
sonic lug attachment to ceramic substrates.
* Debugged production tooling to provide on-the-fly cut-off of wire-wound
resistor elements.
* Provided design criteria to enable proper disposition of non-compliant
components and assemblies.
IOMEGA Roy, Utah
Product Design and Test Engineer
Responsible for development of high density removable computer data
products, specializing in: design of plastic and metal components,
developing manufacturing processes, and design verification, shock and
vibration testing.
* Received US Patent for design of a magnetic media stabilizing wiper
system for data cartridges. Used in 5 " data cartridges and similar
concepts used later in the Zip product line.
* Developed new manufacturing process to line data cartridges with fabric
to eliminate handling damage.
* Justified, purchased and installed a complete shock and vibration test
lab. Provided analysis which enabled the company to quickly correct design
flaws relating to structural resonance affecting the drives ability to
track follow.
* Scheduled and supervised design verification testing which enabled early
release of new products.
* Developed courses and trained staff engineers on the use and operation of
mechanical test lab.
* Designed and applied robotic tooling to simulate handling of data
cartridges in and out of disk drives.
IBM Boca Raton, Florida
Co-Op Engineer
Specified work orders for maintenance of plant equipment and provided
manufacturing process input to reduce assembly workmanship problems on high-
speed data line printers.
VALTEK Springville, Utah
Engineering Lab Technician
Conducted engineering flow parameter testing on industrial automatic
control valves. Designed, built and installed test equipment to determine
functionality of valves in dynamic flow, cryogenic and extreme heat
environments.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
