Upon graduation from the University of Illinois, joined the local CPA
firm of Hamilton & Blaine in Dixon, Illinois as a staff
accountant and advanced to the position of manager. Serviced a wide
variety of clients and managed the related
engagements. The engagements included audits, reviews, compilations
and tax compliance as well as other types of
professional consulting services. The clients were of a broad spectrum
from primarily the local area including the retail,
manufacturing, banking, contracting and agricultural industries as
well as local governmental units.
In 1986, Hamilton and Blaine merged their practice into the regional
firm of Clifton, Gunderson & Co.which significantly
enhanced the resources to serve the client base that was becoming
larger with more complex needs. Advanced to the
position of audit partner and accepted subsequent transfers to the
Oakbrook and Joliet, Illinois offices of Clifton,
Gunderson being exposed to an even wider range of engagements.
Participated in engagements that involved
litigation support services to regulatory authorities with respect to
a large bank failure in Texas as well as
engagements with the Office of Inspector General with respect to
efforts to recover loan collateral of various failed
banks. Also became involved in the profession's peer review process
by assisting in the firm's preparation for its peer
review by performing office inspection procedures and also
participated in peer review engagements on other CPA
firms.
In 1993, accepted a position with the local CPA firm of Wilcoxson &
Associates Ltd. in LaSalle, Illinois which also
served a wide variety of clients in the local area very similar to
those served while at the local office of Hamilton &
Blaine as cited above. Practiced with Wilcoxson & Associates as a non-
equity partner until 2008.
In 2008, accepted an offer from a client to become part of the
management team of a group of companies under
common control. The controlling shareholder requested that various
tasks be addressed that the current controller
was unable to accomplish because of other work commitments upon his
time. Those companies are involved in the
contracting, surface mining and manufacturing industries. As a result
of a sudden and significant collapse of product
orders, the manufacturing business downsized and terminated all but a
core of essential employees in June of 2009
at which time I relocated to the San Antonio area of Texas. While at
Tri-Con Materials (and the related entities), I
performed extensive analysis of the production costs in the surface
mining of aggregate materials used primarily in the
asphalt road construction and concrete industries. Such analysis had
not been previously performed and was
informative to management in setting pricing schedules and
establishing budgetary goals to monitor profitability by
product line.
