I signed a contract for payment of my services to be paid at $25.00 per
hour without any health plan benefits because I was an independent
contractor. Less pay for training was not discussed before I accepted the
position or at the time that we signed the contract. Wendy decided to pay
me at the half rate of $12.50 per hour on her own without my consent. After
a week and a half of working at her company, she notified me that she was
not going to pay me any more than around $10.00 per hour during my training
period which I kindly accepted because at that time due to me not having
any other choice. She also said that she never pays more than that during
training. The pay was insufficient to meet my financial needs while
performing the duties of my job on a daily basis. I could not cover all of
my travel expenses during or after work with the decreased salary. At the
time that I quit and filed for unemployment she would not respond or send
any comment to the NC ESC about what had occurred. I won my unemployment
benefits with no contest from her of course.
