Career Narrative

I have specific experience in creating strategic plans for the re-design of

training and development organizations. This includes assessing and re-

defining personnel reporting structures; identifying gaps within

departmental accountabilities and assigning identified accountabilities

appropriately within the workforce; and strategic planning for the long

term development of employees. I have developed organizational charts of

which, the restructuring of individual responsibilities was the objective.

Recently I have developed a comprehensive employee development program that

includes the enhancement of organizational knowledge,

health/safety/environmental stewardship and skill, as well as career

development.

My managerial experience includes the analysis of production and quality

metrics for multibillion dollar pharmaceutical companies. Metrics that I

developed illustrated the effectiveness of training. As a manager, another

objective was to seek out and eliminate non-value added process steps,

specifically those that negatively affected product quality, overall costs

and cycle time (production process from raw material purchase to finished

goods shipment) and response to customer service related inquiries.

During my managerial tenure, I created and chaired an advisory board that

provided solutions for training and process related anomalies. This board

created and validated quality control reports that helped to support or

change if necessary, training and operational procedures. My

responsibilities also included workforce planning for departments ranging

from 50 to 250 employees. This planning included resource allocation,

production floor layout, the coordination of planning with supporting

departments, recruiting, hiring and a collaboration with temporary labor

vendors to address fluctuations in staffing levels.

I also possess 12 years of production management experience that include

the mitigation of employee relations issues, interpreting and enforcing

labor contracts and disciplinary actions. I have investigated and

successfully defended EEO complaints and grievances on behalf of my former

employers. I have experience working through organized labor work stoppages

as well as facilitating team building scenarios to improve labor/management

relations.

I have been trained the use Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel

and PowerPoint. I use these applications daily as a communication tool, in

addition to periodic (monthly) reporting and the creation of employee

development curriculum. I am also experienced in the use of GroupWise,

Lotus Notes, Plateau Enterprise LMS. MedeLearn LMS and internet based

applications designed to enhance knowledge.

My professional development includes enhancement of my human resources

skills via training in performance management. As a result of this career

development initiative, I have provided consultation for management

professionals and small businesses by creating or streamlining performance

management processes for which, they were responsible. Additionally, I have

earned professional certifications via Langevin Learning Services and

Development Dimensions International to further serve in the capacity as a

training manager, as well as to provide enhanced facilitation skills during

problem solving exercises. These skills have been utilized during my tenure

as a training professional, specifically while marketing strategic training

plans to executive management, evaluation of procedures and policies and

the facilitation of training curriculum designed to improve employee

performance.

Additional experiences that add to my background include serving as a

staffing consultant during my tenure with Alcon Laboratories. Within my

assignment at this company, I identified candidates, coordinated individual

and/or panel interviews, facilitated the various steps within the selection

process and ultimately hired staff.

My experience within the organizational development discipline includes

leading various departmental planning sessions designed to map short and

long term strategy. In my role as a catalyst, I facilitated department

heads through goal identification sessions using a S.W.O.T analysis to

drive the process. This experience was amassed during my tenure with Abbott

Laboratories and involved multiple levels of management. While at Abbott I

also served as the site coordinator for the Corporation's bi-annual

employee satisfaction survey. This initiative required a coordinated effort

with corporate headquarters, site department heads and the plant

population. As a follow up to the survey, I led the assignment to conduct

focus groups, with the objective of gaining further clarification of the

survey results for our site.

My communications skills have been sharpened via my formal education and

professional development, as well. I have attended two exceptional

presentation workshops to strengthen my presentation skills. I have given

several training and/or corporate presentations during my management

tenure. This includes large scale training initiatives for our site

population. I am a seasoned event planner. I have planned a coordinated

annual training day activities for large groups. I have also chaired a

committee while at Bayer Corporation that won a continuous improvement

award for a safety related public relations project that included the

participation of local law enforcement agencies, the local fire

departments, healthcare officials, local government and the local news

media. I am a skilled writer, having developed newsletters in addition to

writing articles for publication. This includes articles written for the

Fort Worth Human Resources Management Association's Newsletter.
