IBM Mainframe Operator:

Duties/skills:

For the past 12 years, as part of the MIS team, I was involved in the daily operations of the City’s

mainframe system, an IBM 2096, sysplex with lpars. As part of the daily and nightly operator functions I

was required to monitor all systems using the Cybermation ESP Workload Manager along with

Spectrum system monitoring. These duties required experience in the following: TSO, CICS, VTAM,

JES2, SDSF, DB2, as well as PeopleSoft. As part of the operations staff it is our responsibility to

maintain minimal down time to a 24/7 operation, with as little interference as possible to the work flow

of the 2000 plus end-users. In addition to the daily duties of the computer operations department, it was

also my responsibility to perform system backups on a nightly, weekly and monthly schedule. Large bill

runs were part of the duties of all operators. As a senior operator, training of new employees was a

critical part of the job in order to pass on all critical information as well as keep the integrity of

operations running smoothly and efficiently as possible.

placed into area for damaged goods. Trained new employees in forklift and reach truck operation, safety
