Logistics Specialist's are the Navy's Logistic Specialists (includes Postal and Supply Clerks). They see

that needed supplies are available, everything from clothing and machine parts to forms and food.

Logistics Specialist's have duties like those of civilian warehouse men, purchasing agents, stock clerks

and supervisors, retail sales clerks, store managers, inventory clerks, buyers, parts clerks, bookkeepers,

and even forklift operators. Logistics Specialist's also operate a large postal system, having much the

same duties as their civilian counterparts. Logistics Specialist's collect postage-due mail, prepare

customs declarations, collect outgoing mail, cancel stamps, and send the mail on its way. They also

perform a variety of record-keeping and reporting duties, including maintenance of an up-to-date

directory service and location file. Performs various automated systems inventory and financial

management functions in Relational Supply Unit Level activities. Functions include inventory control,

stock recorders, analysis of historical demand listings and financial reports. Reviews and corrects

inventory and financial transactions and financial reconciliation reports

Maintains all report files, shipping records, and correspondence files; arranges customer requirements

and services; maintains supply or transportation discrepancies; prepares expenditure documents for

disposition; ships discrepant material; identifies hazardous material (HAZMAT); verifies material safety;

maintains consumption files and performs causative research for stock discrepancies; processes material

issued from stock; verifies materials for special handling; generates shipping documents; performs

inventory; maintains inventory records and allowance lists; stows incoming material; organizes stowage;

monitors warehouse for proper stowage; processes receipt transactions; corrects disputes with vendors;

and maintains receipt records and accountability of controlled material

Performs all basic seamanship functions aboard ship that involve line or wire and rigging used to secure

the

ship to a pier, mooring, or anchor; is able to identify functions of navigation and shipboard equipment;

different types of compasses; keeps records by degrees or points; knows navigational aids, nautical rules

of the road, and the buoys of inland waters of the US; knows the nomenclature of decks, superstructures,

and parts of the hull; knows the purpose and limitations of first aid and the first aid treatments for

electrical shock, simple and compound fractures, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and burns; must be

qualified as a swimmer, fourth class; knows how to determine the classes of fire hoses and how to use

carbon dioxide, dry chemical, and water portable fire extinguishers; knows the function of the typical

fire main system, fixed carbon dioxide system, water wash down system, and magazine sprinkling

system; knows the difference between flooding and progressive flooding and the danger involved.
