WORK EXPERIENCE:
Environmental Specialist I, II, III, IV March 2005 - November
2010
Maryland Environmental Service, Millersville, MD
. Project management of environmental monitoring operations for various
solid waste facilities; including client and regulatory agency
interaction, procurement coordination and supervision of junior level
employees
. Responsible for half a million dollars in project budgets
. Promoted four times in five years of employment
. Oversight and management of remediation system installations
. Performed site evaluations and Assessment of Corrective Measures (ACM)
reports at Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and pre-RCRA
solid waste facilities that have environmental compliance issues,
including all phases of fieldwork and final report preparation. These
evaluations included both groundwater contamination and landfill gas
migration issues. Some field tasks performed for these evaluations
include soil gas surveys, monitoring well installations, aquifer testing,
borehole profiling/fracture delineation and discrete interval sampling.
Selected remedies have included natural attenuation approaches and
subsequent modeling. Some of these evaluations have led to "No Further
Action" determinations by the regulatory authority (one under the
Voluntary Cleanup Program).
. Performed routine post-closure and active RCRA permit environmental
reporting for various facilities, including the statistical analysis of
groundwater data
. Drafted new environmental monitoring plans for various facilities
. Drafted proposals for environmental monitoring, landfill gas and
groundwater investigations for various projects
. Assisted with the design and O&M of landfill gas extraction systems and
passive gas collection trench design
. Technical support of UST investigation and remediation projects
. Conducted National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit
monitoring and reporting
. Assisted in the permitting and project development of RCRA Subtitle C and
D facilities, including wetland delineation surveys
. Assisted facilities in complying with EPA Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting
Rule
. Field Experience: Oversight and logging for drilling operations and test
pits, construction management of remediation system installation, all
manner of groundwater (low-flow, various discrete interval sampling
techniques), surface water and sediment sampling (encore and dredge),
aquifer testing (pump and slug testing and analysis)
Environmental Technician August 2004 - February
2005
Groundwater and Environmental Services, Crofton, MD
. Groundwater sampling, slug testing, and air sampling
. Operation and maintenance on groundwater treatment systems, vapor
extraction systems and air sparging systems
. Monitoring well installations and directing vacuum enhanced total fluid
recovery from contaminated wells
Engineering Technician February 2000- August
2004
Geo-Technology Associates, Laurel, MD
. Performed geotechnical soil testing including AASHTO T-99 and T-180
proctors, limits, and grain-size analysis; as well as CBR testing
. Assisted with drilling operations, including geotechnical borings and
directing test pit explorations
. Construction Inspection: nuclear density testing, foundation inspections,
utilities and stormwater projects
GIS Specialist May 1999 - December 1999
PA Department of Environmental Protection, Black Fly Suppression Program
. Maintained treatment and sampling site coverages overlaid on PA county
maps
. Created various maps for the BlackFly Program and helped to analyze
helicopter flight/spray data
