A brief account of the Research Projects that I worked for
My First Project: The study took into account a large group of long-
standing diabetic patients, inadequately controlled on Oral Anti Diabetic
drugs that were switched to insulin. Subjects were chosen on the grounds
of poor glycemic control to study the changes after they were put on
insulin, without undue adverse effects of hypoglycemia.
My Second Project: This study was largely based on a huge volume of
existing indirect experimental evidence that oxidative stress plays a
role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and the surmise that
inhibition of MAO and thereby, inhibiting the generation of free radicals
should help improve the clinical outlook for such patients. Active
participants were chosen to study the effect of Selegiline, the MAO-B
inhibitor, towards improving the clinical condition of Parkinson's
clients. This was a program run by the pharmacology and pathology
departments of school, funded by the pharmaceutical company, Apotex.
Our research group holds the credit of being a part of three publications.
