EXPERIENCE
Director, Information Technology
February 2002 - April 2009
Conrad Imports, Inc., San Francisco, CA
Directed IT operations, policies, and initiatives for three corporate
locations in San Francisco, and remote operations in New York, Korea, and
China. Responsible for completely recreating the company's failing IT
infrastructure, procedures, and personnel.
. Designed and developed a custom GL/AR/AP financial system, a complex
Order Configurator system, and the corresponding integrations of these
systems with Great Plains to create a consolidated, multi-currency, multi-
subsidiary financial reporting tree. Later converted all financial
systems, subsystems, and reports from fiscal to calendar year accounting
periods.
. Successfully converted traditional hardware servers to VMware virtual
servers, resulting in improved system redundancy, fault-tolerance,
backup, disaster recovery, and automatic failover capabilities. Reduced
IT costs by minimizing power consumption and server room cooling costs,
ultimately qualifying for and securing utility company rebates.
. Designed and developed numerous in-house applications for customer/lead
tracking, sample and sales order processing, inventory management, credit
card payments, purchase order processing, IT/HR/Accounting/Production
case ticketing, email marketing, production scheduling and order
fulfillment, web portal messaging and reporting, sales tax and commission
processing, and more.
. Managed IT staff and contractors, including hiring, terminating,
training, mentoring, reviewing, and conducting personnel searches for
temporary and full-time employment. Created yearly IT budgets and expense
projections.
. Successfully planned and managed company expansion, locally and overseas,
including a corporate office move. Designed and implemented a new
corporate office layout, involving cubicle, cabling, and electrical plans
and a custom-designed IT server room.
. Managed company-wide telephony, including PBX, VOIP, and cell phones.
Migrated to a new Toshiba CIX phone system, incorporating VOIP calling,
faxing, and paging for remote locations, significantly reducing telephone
utility expenses.
. Researched ERP systems, ultimately procuring and implementing Great
Plains. Conducted extensive data migrations and designed custom
integrations and financial reports, establishing links to custom, in-
house financial applications (e.g. AR subsystem).
. Managed a complete redesign of the company's web site (conradshades.com),
including the development of custom scripts and forms. Consolidated
company domain registrations with a single registrar, and initiated new
documentation to track acquisitions.
. Successfully migrated payroll processing twice between PayChex and ADP,
including the integration of time and attendance systems, and developed
homegrown General Ledger integrations, with monthly 401k imports/exports
for third-party administrators.
. Introduced new IT infrastructure, including Hitachi SAN/NAS storage,
WiMax broadband, Sonicwall firewalls, anti-virus/spyware/spam gateways
and desktop systems, granular backups and bare-metal imaging, alerts
messaging, and remote user VPN technology. Upgraded all T1 lines,
routers, switches, printers, scanners, and UPS's.
. Executed several company-wide hardware and software rollouts, including
migrations from Windows 95/NT to Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista. Also managed
the introduction of several Apple iMacs and MacBook laptops.
. Redesigned and developed a complex order Configurator, capable of
millions of permutations, and required for rule-enforcement, constraint-
checking, dependent component calculations, multi-year pricing and
discounting, and automatic messaging. Continually expanded this system to
incorporate new product lines and options, such as drapery, sliding panel
systems, outdoor shades, roll-up shades, faux and fabric-only valances,
edge binding, and enhanced motorization, fabrics, top and bottom
treatments, etc.
