Prior time with company:
Obtained position as plans & specs estimator for commercial sales staff for this full service mechanical contractor. As skills
developed & overall knowledge grew I worked my way up to handling existing customer base requirements in addition to
plans & specs bidding. Successful bids enabled me to make scheduled job site visits to insure installations were in-line with
bid package. Continued site visits opened up opportunities to generate change orders to offset variations due to preexisting
or construction deviations. Projects included work up to 10M were: St. Mary’s Hospital Long Beach CA, St Jude’s Hospital
two sites, new wing St. Joseph Children’s Hospital Orange CA, Henry Mayo Hospital Santa Clarita CA. All work included a
wide variety of HVAC and piping work performed by in-house mechanics & union pipe fitters. The piping requirements ranged
from life support systems such as bed side oxygen, refrigeration piping, domestic heating & cooling water systems. As Direct
Digital Control Systems developed a need for more sophisticated Instrumentation & Control also became apparent.
Element Service, Inc. – Van Nuys, CA 01/2005 – 09/2007
Director of Operations
Hired on by a start-up company with individuals known to me from my experience in the industry. As the employee list
increased due to my hiring practices to fill voids to meet new customer requirements so did the need for a facility to operate
out of. Soon we grew from three management personnel to residential installer / salesperson, two service technicians with
three old house installation crews. By mid-summer ’05in our new 1200 square foot facility, we had three install / service ton
utility bed trucks a Scion for the superintendent. The management team used our personally owned trucks to assist with
deliveries of equipment. Continued efforts in conjunction with major equipment suppliers marketing efforts the summer of ’06
found the service & installation crews over whelmed with a back log of work. Poor owner decisions, coupled with incorrect
financial decisions lead the company down the road to over extending our capabilities. These indiscretions lead to gradual
layoffs of productive employees which lead the closing of a potential win-win scenario for a start-up company.
Sea Pac Engineering – Los Angeles, CA 06/2003 – 12/2004
Chief Estimator, Director of Field Operations, Project Manager, Contractors Quality Control Manager
Hired as Chief Estimator, within three months I was promoted to Director of Field Operations. This was due to my
comprehensive knowledge & overall ability to coordinate efforts in the field to assist in the day to day smooth running of all
on-going & new projects awarded in conjunction with bidding efforts. Locations ranged from Naval Air Station Coronado, CA;
USMC Air Station Miramar, CA; USMC Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA; Port Hueneme & Point Mugu, Oxnard, CA;
Edwards Air Force Base Rosamond, CA; China Lake Naval Weapons Station, Ridgecrest, CA; Additional assignments
included Sierra Madre Elementary School, Pasadena, CA; University High School, Irvine, CA; Pierce College, Tarzana, CA;
Castaic Lake Recreation Area, Castaic, CA; Types of construction ranged from new buildings up to $10M, small tenant
improvement, complete renovation of existing buildings to pre-engineered buildings. Systems installed include basic framing
using Design / Build formats, electrical requirements, HVAC, plumbing / piping, site improvement & utilities, Fire Life Safety,
Local Area Network (LAN) & remote control surveillance systems. The government did not renew any on-going contracts for
non-essential requirements. As explained to the contractors involved this was driven by what has been labeled as “Cost of
War Spending” resulting in smaller 8A type companies closing their doors and other having drastic lay-offs.
