Description
Disaster Recovery
Instrumental in creation of National DR Plan. Provided a fully documented plan
consisting of vendor and staff contact numbers, Call Tree for escalation,
locations of offsite facilities, deployment of DR workstations and servers
ensuring up to date replication of all production data. DR Checklists to verify
copies of installation software updated quarterly, MCW (Mission Critical
Workstation) Images updated quarterly along with a full test scheduled yearly.
DR plan feasibility proven with successful business continuity and production
of newspapers on 3 occasions due to black out, staff outages and bomb scare.
Automation Upgrades
Collaborated with vendor to implement a business need solution using InDesign/
InCopy with News Creator. The goal was to eliminate the manuals processes and
replace them with automated modules for Ad Placing, Page Creation and Page
Preview application to be used by our Editorial, Pagination and Production
staffs. The InDesign/ InCopy solution allowed editors to modify content while
the text is paginated as well as return the correction back to the editorial
system via xml tagging allowing for later deadlines and less errors. Automatic
Ad placement saves 1 hour per shift per person and prevents from misplaced ads
appearing in print resulting in loss revenue, page creation saves 2 hours per
shift per person allowing Paginators to concentrate on design and quality
control and page preview allows Sr. Managers and Editors to view pages via web
browser in PDF format as the pages are produced. Staffing for manual processes
was reduced by 1/3 due to this advancement with no loss in productivity.
IT Documentation
Worked with staff to construct a fully documented IT Manual consisting of
installation procedures, maintenance procedures, non confidential
configurations and "How To" documentation for users to access online via
SharePoint intranet server.
