Objective A database administrator position to implement and maintain database
servers and design scalable and optimized solutions for products in
a growth-oriented company.
Education and professional certifications
MCTS: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Implementation & Maintenance (April 2009)
Master of Science in Computer Science (2004 - 2006) University of Alabama at
Birmingham
Bachelor Of Engineering in Information Technology (1999-2003) St. Francis IOT

Work Experience
Software Engineer at CareFusion (2006 to Present):
Database Development
Consult and advise team lead and developers during design and review session of
database model as per requirements to deliver consistent and logical products.
Review database objects procedures, functions, views, keys, indexes and triggers.
Provide inputs to developers to optimize them to increase efficiency and design
scalability.
Set up and maintain Dev, QA and UAT environments for development, testing and UAT.
Create and Enforce Database Design Standards, naming conventions, data dictionary
documentation and processes in the team to ensure consistency and best practices.
Database configuration, Maintenance and management
Create and schedule maintenance activities to generate statistics, perform
DBIntegrity checks, database optimizations for ~600dbs across 50 servers with up to
~5tb data for optimal performance.
Plan, organize, coordinate and implement database deployments, deployment
rollbacks, version upgrades, and hardware maintenance. Record of successful
releases of various projects in a project team.
Production support DBA providing 24*7 customer support in a high availability
environment.
SQL Migrations: Configure and maintain SQL server 2005 and 2008, along with
establishing security and configuring replication. Assist in planning and executing
the database migration from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 system.
Coordinate with production support team in quick client issue resolution and
continuous performance tracking during releases and online demos by using tools
like SQL profiler and third party tools DBMonitor, ApexSQLDiff, NetIQ
Effectively used Team Foundation Server (TFS) system for project change management
and request/issue tracking and resolution.
Quick turnaround time on issues is achieved by designing windows services,
applications and batch jobs to alert server error, low server disk space,
replication monitoring and migrating databases quickly across servers.
Coordinating with system administrators, network engineers and backup team members
during escalations/outages.
Other activities involved security administration, database schema compares, load
testing, internal issues reported by SE's, maintain linked servers and security
across linked server. Frequent attach-detach, import-export, Back-up, restores and
replications processes.
Designed and implemented SSIS packages, and DTS to SSIS conversions from SQL
2000-2005.
Other Projects:
Central Repository Load tool application designed to create a centralized research
database for research studies and data mining. Designed data model, procedures,
functions and SSIS package to bulk load data from production to staging area to
research. GUI used to manage/load/monitor this data load into research. Full loads
done twice a year Due to high volume of data and continuously changing schema, a
lot of QA and maintenance tasks need to be performed on research database. SQL
database mails used extensively for error notification during loads.
Data Extraction for medical research studies involved understanding study
specifications and writing complex SQL queries over huge dataset in repository.
Queries designed to generate statistical details like total volume of data,
percentage match/mismatch, missing data, data feed overlaps. Queries designed to
QA/cleanup of healthcare records.
Database Monitoring and Management System a .Net Web Application designed in C# to
administer, manage and maintain all servers. GUI designed to display the status of
the details gathered by various services described below:
Windows services in C# (scheduled Hourly/daily): to check on disk space shortage -
auto generate "disk out of space" emails for each server, SQL error log file
parsing server to continuously check for SQL errors, weekly file parser service
parses through files generated by maintenance plans running rebuild indexes,
re-compute statistics and database integrity checks. Maintaining history of all
error logs and maintenance jobs, information and graphs to display time required by
maintenance jobs. Graphs to display SQL server data growth.
Build management tool a batch job designed to run database builds in parallel
across all production server to perform activities like: db schema modifications,
manage permissions and data modifications. Capability for version control.
