DETAILED LEGAL WORK EXPERIENCE
*Santa Clara Public Defender's Office: Alternate Defender
9/10- present
Continuing my work with supervising attorney Daniel Camp, I am now
assigned to working as the legal research intern for the Alternate
Defender's Office. In that role, I am responsible for handling research
inquiries and writing issue memos regarding legal questions faced by the
attorneys at the Alternate Defender's Office. I have again been PTLS
certified, and as such, am once more capable of arguing motions before the
bench for Departments 27 and 31.
* Center for Conflict Resolution - Court Appointed Mediator
1/10-5/10
As a court appointed mediator certified by the Center for Conflict
Resolutions, I regularly was assigned to mediate cases being brought before
the State Courts in Chicago's Daley Center. In that capacity, I worked
with clients to find alternate dispute resolutions for a number of
different conflicts, ranging form landlord-tenant disputes to separation
proceedings to property and tort cases
* Santa Clara Public Defender's Office: Alternate Defender
5/09- 8/019
Working as the supervising intern under attorney Daniel Camp, I
assisted Mr. Camp with a felony calendar that consisted of homicide, drug
possession, and gang enhancement cases. I researched and submitted briefs
to the court on behalf of Mr. Camp and assisted in in-Chambers discussions
between the Public Defender and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's
Office.
During my time at the internship I also obtained State Bar
certification to appear in Court where I argued motions and preliminary
hearings in court, on behalf of my supervising attorney.
* Santa Clara Public Defender's Office - Summer Intern 6/08
- 8/08
I wrote motions and petitions that were argued in felony Court. I
obtained the necessary information for these appeals by independently
interviewing clients at the county jail and/or courthouse; contacting and
deposing witnesses, and researching relevant case statutory/case law.
I also worked in close relation with supervising attorney to prepare
cases on felony calendar for preliminary examination, trial, and sentencing
phases.
* Fragomen Del Ray Bernsen and Lewey - Assistant Paralegal
1/07-8/07
I Researched and drafted over a dozen 20-30 page O-1 and OR petitions
for clients; process which involved extensive client interaction,
expansive amounts of evidence collection and organization and daily
collaboration with veteran attorneys and senior paralegals. All of these
petitions were later submitted on behalf of the client.
* Volunteer intern: East Bay Community Law Center
9/04- 6/06
As a volunteer intern, I made court appearances for clients, wrote
appeals to the court on their behalf. and coordinated with case workers and
attorneys in examining and providing rehabilitation/sentencing alternatives
for clients undergoing Prop.36 litigation.
I also assisted clients in finding legal information, filing claims
and obtaining benefits from government programs such as SSI and SSDI.
