AURORA HEALTH CARE, Milwaukee, WI 2008 to present
Vice President Clinic Information Systems
Aurora Health Care is an integrated health care delivery network serving
eastern Wisconsin with 15 hospitals, 3000 physicians and annual revenues
of $4.2B. As Vice President Clinic Information Systems, with an annual
operating budget of $12MM and 110 staff, responsibilities encompassed
applications strategy, direction and management. Major products include
Cerner's Ambulatory PowerChart, Epic Enterprise Suite and GE/IDX.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Leading a $190MM project to deploy Epic's systems throughout Aurora's
hospitals, clinics and home health entities
Led an 8 month effort to build and install the Epic inpatient system for
Aurora's first hospital using Epic
Managed the migration of approximately 75 physician practices from 13
different clinics to Aurora's systems
Led the IT staff planning and financial modeling for Aurora's migration
from Cerner, GE/IDX and McKesson Medipac to Epic's Enterprise Suite
Led the IT planning effort to qualify Aurora physicians for ARRA HITECH
stimulus funds
ADVANCED HEALTHCARE, Milwaukee, WI (acquired by Aurora Health Care) 1998 to
2008
Vice President Information Systems
Advanced Healthcare, which was acquired by Aurora Health Care in 2008,
was a 300 physician multi-specialty group practice. As the Vice
President Information Systems, with an annual operating budget of $8.5MM
and 60 staff, responsibilities encompassed information systems strategy,
direction, management and operations.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Created, won approval and implemented strategic information systems
program to replace all primary practice management and health
information applications. With $13MM in capital expenditures,
replacement applications included:
Ambulatory Suite for Registration, Billing, Scheduleing and
Electronic Health Record (Epic)
Laboratory Information System (Sunquest)
Personal Productivity Tools (Microsoft Exchange and Office)
Interface Engine (Sun eGate)
Multiple PBX telephone systems (Cisco and Nortel)
Led the patient web portal (Epic MyChart) implementation with prescription
renewal requests, secure messaging, direct appointment scheduling, results
delivery and medical history
Led the selection process for a system-wide PACS to accommodate 160,000
images annually
Led two standing Board Committees (Information Systems Steering and
Information Systems Strategic Planning)
MILWAUKEE MEDICAL CLINIC, Milwaukee, WI (acquired by Advanced Healthcare)
1996 to 1998
Management Information Systems Consultant
Milwaukee Medical Clinic, which merged into Advanced Healthcare at the
beginning of 1998, was a 300 physician multi-specialty group practice.
As a Management Information Systems Consultant, primary responsibility
encompassed information systems planning utilizing contemporary health
care information system platforms.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Created a three year information systems plan with building blocks and
budget.
Directed the evaluation and selection process for new practice
management, clinical and medical management information systems to
serve the needs of the post merger group
MERITER HOSPITAL, Madison, WI 1995 to 1996
Senior Director of Management Information Systems
Meriter Hospital, which integrated the Physicians Plus Medical Group
Information Systems department prior to the planned acquisition, is a 500
bed hospital. As the Senior Director of Management Information Systems,
responsibilities encompassed clinical information systems and
telecommunications.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Created a five year telecommunications plan for seamless voice
communication between 23 clinics and 2 hospitals.
Assembled a Request for Proposal for a clinical information system to
accommodate the requirements of physicians.
PHYSICIANS PLUS MEDICAL GROUP, Madison, WI (acquired by Meriter Hospital)
1988 to 1995
Director of Management Information Systems
Physicians Plus Medical Group was a 250 physician multi-specialty group
practice. As the Director of Management Information Systems, with 15
staff and an annual operating budget of $2MM, responsibilities
encompassed information systems strategy, direction, management and
operations.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Migrated all practice management applications for entire medical group to
a new platform
Authored strategic information system plans, annual work plans and budgets
consistent with the organization's business plan
DIGITAL DATA DESIGNS, Madison, WI 1984 to 1988
Owner/Consultant
Digital Data Designs was a boutique information systems consulting group
focused on software design and programming.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments:
Led group to define and recommend health related utilization reporting
Developed electronic insurance claims programs for medical group
Developed electronic file transfer program for software manufacturer
Evaluated the health care portion of the General Assistance program for
Milwaukee County
Created an application to assist electrical engineers with power
distribution systems
