Department of Transportation, Boston, MA Summer 2009
o Positioned with the Driver Control Unit: Interlock Division through the DOT Summer
Transportation Internship Program for Diverse Groups (STIPDG). Collected and interpreted data on
daily violations, which were then scheduled for hearings. Completed a paper on methods of
improving sustainability in DOT offices for the academic portion of the program.

o EWA is a grassroots non-profit concerned with protecting human health and the environment
through conservation efforts and toxic site cleanup. Collaborated with the New Jersey Department
of Environmental Protection on the progress toward compliance with hazardous site remediation
standards. Hosted eco-tours of the surrounding Dismal Swamp, one of New Jersey’s last remaining
wetlands, which was preserved by EWA. Advocated for local land preservation initiatives.

o Under the guidance of the Lehigh Earth Observatory, administered hydrological field assessments,
including water sampling, collecting stream measurements, and determining water velocities
throughout different sites along the Little Lehigh River. Also administered laboratory experiments,
which required mass spectroscopy, filtration, photometers, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen
measures.

o Researched and wrote an environmental justice case study of a NYC public school, Middle School
88. Legal violations of federal air and water quality standards were identified, and solutions
suggested.
