Sample projects include onsite pollution prevention training and resource conservation consultation to
the City of Pasadena, Texas; serving in advisory capacity on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy
policy, especially in coordination with Texas business and environmental organizations; assisting the
2010 CATEE conference; and, serving in advisory and coordinating capacity for the 2010
Environmental Stewardship Roundtable (with Lower Colorado River Authority, MSWG, and EPA Region 6
Roundtable).
2007- 2010 NATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY LABORATORY (NREL)
ESH&Q Environmental Management System and Pollution Prevention Specialist:
Managed NREL’s Environmental Management System. This included internal environmental
stewardship operations and external Laboratory reporting and activities, such as green house gases
(GHG) reporting, in coordination with the Sustainable NREL program, and associated policies,
operational procedures, outreach, and awards. Led teams, audits, projects, training and executive
management reviews for successful completion of DOE’s Declaration of NREL’s Compliance with the
White House Executive Order 13423 (on EMS) and other organizational commitments and directives
with voluntary and other teams.
2001- 2006 State and Local Initiatives Group Project Leader II:
Priorities included managing and implementing projects engaging state and local governments in the deployment
of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies through innovative tools such as Sustainability
Management Systems (SMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Lean/Green efforts and Supplemental
Environmental Projects (SEPs) while also advising strategic sustainability decisions for NREL’s own operations.
Co-Managed NREL’s participation in EPA’s National Environmental Performance Track program which involved
progress analysis and reporting toward stated goals such as GHG emissions reductions and participation on
NREL’s internal assessment team. Advised and assisted US EPA officials in analysis while developing national
guidance for State Implementation Plan credit for EERE technologies. Daily activities included representing the
Sustainable NREL program through participation in activities and projects with local, state, and national
organizations such as NCSL, ICLEI, NPPR, MSWG, DRCOG, CEC and various EPA and DOE divisions.
2005- 2007 StEPP FOUNDATION, INC.
Program Oversight Manager:
Managed and performed all aspects of analyzing, promoting, awarding, tracking and reporting for Supplemental
Environmental Project Grants (i.e. fines from environmental violators distributed to environmentally and socially
beneficial projects). This included developing Requests for Proposals, reviewing responses, coordinating and
advising Board review and selection of submitted projects, implementing contracts with awardees, ensuring
environmental benefits calculations and reporting, reviewing quarterly reports, requesting reimbursements,
summarizing project status for quarterly Board meetings and State agencies’ reports, coordinating media releases,
closing out projects and overseeing project management for successful results. A highlight of this position
included developing an especially challenging environmental benefits calculation (air quality - PM) for a New
Mexico project in coordination with EPA headquarters.
1998-2001 IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Waste Reduction Assistance Program Environmental Specialist: Assisted Iowa industries with
corporate sustainability issues including pollution prevention, lean manufacturing, technology transfer
(related to waste, energy, efficiency and productivity issues), on-site industrial assessments and
reporting – with oversight of Field Engineers’ work and deliverables.
1994-1996 UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA, INDUSTRIAL ASSESSMENT CENTER
Waste Analysis Team Member: As the initial team member, performed on-site analyses of small to
medium-sized industries for waste minimization opportunities including process, environmental, and
energy efficiency improvements. Assessment recommendations, including waste stream flow
analyses, ROI and/or CBA, were researched, prepared and presented.
