I created and implemented highly reliable main-board design solutions for
companies in telecommunications, information systems, aerospace and
electronic industries, ensuring quality product and cost-effective
delivery. In addition, I engineered and optimized circuitry performance,
routinely producing superior results to the most vexing engineering issues
for key clients, including Verizon Communications, T-Mobile and the US Air
Force.
Combining strong leadership skills with highly-refined engineering
abilities, I have handled all aspects of analog and digital circuitry from
concept, hardware development, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting
for manufacturability to exceed corporate and investor expectations. My
strengths include:
o Ensuring delivery of assigned objectives for scope, schedule, budget
and customer satisfaction
o Providing engineering and design expertise to execute complex
technical projects
o Exceeding expectations in time, cost, performance and safety
o Analyzing multifaceted engineering challenges and developing
innovative solutions.
Described as a knowledgeable, results-oriented professional who is
committed to excellence, I have consistently provided fully-functional
products upon initial release. My credentials include an MSEE from Illinois
Institute of Technology and a BSEE from Purdue University.
Selected Accomplishments
Created simulation testing to control costs. Challenged to develop
backplane PCB with minimal manufacturing reruns for Tellabs. Created
universal shelf, enhancing density/interfacing capabilities. Developed full
simulation before being manufactured to analyze signals and transmission
line loss and coupling affects. First prototype was 100% functionally
correct avoiding needs for additional prototype spins saving $150,000 in
prototype costs..
Ensured international project deadlines were met. Recently acquired Finnish
facility was falling behind on projects due to lack of engineering talent.
Managed engineering team created in the US to remotely supply needed
manpower. Revamped, integrated and homologized international procedures to
US practices within three weeks.
Leveraged design expertise to ensure project deadline was met. Client
changed flight test aircraft without consulting ITT. Inspected/analyzed
airplane, equipment, and power supply for communication system
installation. Collaborated with test pilots, determining/ensuring safe
flight paths for short/long range flight tests. Flight tests were
conducted resulting in the tests being successfully completed with the
project being the first successful high speed data laser communications
link operational between two planes in flight at significant distances.
Revamped testing process to improve yield. Tellabs Dataplexer production
yields needed to be improve dramatically. Analyzed testing process for the
product line and created a rack and stack test system, eliminating
reassembling units after process. Boosted yield tests to nearly 100%,
allowing some modules to be just AQL board-tested only.
Career Summary
PRINCIPAL TEST ENGINEER, ITT INC, 2004 TO 2009. HIRED BY $11B+ GLOBAL,
DEFENSE CONTRACTOR, TO PROVIDE TEST PLANNING FOR THE US AIR FORCE'S FALCON
FREE SPACE LASER COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM. INITIATED TESTING PROCESSES FROM
THE ACCEPTANCE TESTING OF THE SUB-ASSEMBLIES THROUGH THE SHORT/LONG RANGE
FIELD AND FLIGHT TESTS.
Tellabs, Inc. Promoted and assigned to levels of increasing responsibility
for this global $2B provider of broadband solutions for wireline/wireless
networks for key clients, including T-Mobile and Verizon Communications.
o Lead Engineer, 1998 to 2003. Transferred to the 5500/5300 Crossconnect
product development group. Created backplane for new card shelf to
enhance Titan 5500 system density/capacity, ensuring FCC, UL and
Telcordia certification requirements were met. Trained and mentored
two junior engineers.
o Development Manager - International, 1994 to 1998. Managed engineering
efforts and integrated US and Finland facility after recent
acquisition. Led team of 13 hardware and software engineers and
technicians to develop modules for a crossconnect product developed in
Finland.
o Development Manager, 1990 to 1994. Promoted from Senior Test Engineer
to lead/support hardware development for Dataplexer and Crossnet
products. Developed new modules and upgraded modules due to obsolete
parts or feature enhancements, improving processes to boost
productivity and system throughput. Managed team of ten hardware
engineers and technicians.
o Senior Test Engineer, 1985 to 1990. Created the manufacturing test
environment for the Dataplexer product line to replace the existing
ineffective testing. Lead product quality improvement resulting in
several modules achieving 100% board test results and switching
modules to AQL board testing.
Earlier: Senior Test Engineer, Northrop DSD; Test Engineer, Manufacturing
Engineer, Motorola; Field Engineer, Powers Regulator; Development Engineer,
Admiral Corp.; and Liaison Engineer, RCA.
Personal: I hold a FCC Amateur Radio license, am a chairperson on the
Historic Research Committee - Nickel Plate Railroad Historic and Technical
Society, as well as participate in a variety of local charitable
organizations.
