EXPERIENCE
CAD/CAM, EDM, Tool & Die Engineer - SPM (SEMX Corp) www.sempck.com -
1992 to 2011
. Manage CAD/CAM, CNC Wire EDM, and new tooling processes.
. Coordinate and oversee new tooling operations from design to production.
. Advanced AutoCAD skills, including interface customization, profile
configuration, custom commands and LISP programming.
. Create all CAD drawings required for the fabrication of progressive dies
and compound dies. Revise drawings as needed.
. Provide company-wide CAD support. Create drawings for various
applications. Assist sales and production control departments with
customer CAD drawings & tooling issues.
. Collaborate with Director of Manufacturing, Stamping Manager, and
diemakers on die design and modification, trouble-shooting, and
improving die performance.
. Communicate with customers to resolve design and part drawing issues.
Participate in conference calls to discuss feasibility of design and
offer input regarding R&D projects.
. Establish procedures to improve consistency in quality of parts and
condition of tooling, and to reduce down time.
. Help achieve longer production runs by upgrading die components with
carbide, powdered steel, and punch coatings. Monitor and log die
activity and performance.
. Develop standard sizes for families of die components enabling
preparation of workpieces in advance and maintaining stock,
significantly reducing lead time.
. Automate CNC programming process by customizing CAM software with
productivity macros, using macro command language with variables,
conditionals, loops, arrays, and dialogs.
. Program and set up CNC Wire EDMs to produce precision stamping die
components. Fine tune machining parameters to achieve high level of
accuracy required.
. Program and set up CNC vertical milling center for tool steel and
graphite applications. Create master tool library storing speeds and
feeds.
. Optimize machine usage, reduce setup time, and increase unattended
machining time.
. Modify and fine tune CNC code generator module of CAM software.
. Store die specifications and CAD/CAM file information in database. Use
queries and filters to quickly locate records.
. Select and purchase stamping die components, tool steel, machine parts
and supplies, and specialty end mills.
. Perform PC software installation and configuration, set up of file
sharing, security and drive mapping, and file backups.
. Perform machine maintenance and repairs, train personnel to program, set
up, and operate CNC Wire EDMs.
. Advance skills and find answers with effective use of the Internet,
email user forums and newsletters.
