IT Computer Support Specialist-Communications Unit Lead

Successfully manage a team of 10 multi-skilled IT professionals in all aspects of computer, network and

telecommunications in support of FEMA’s Respond and Recovery Mission.

Coordinate with Logistics to perform Joint Field Office (JFO) and Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) procurement and

closeout operations.

Provide exceptional technical and network support to 400+ internal and field personnel, contractors, State and local

government, and other government agencies in our 99,000 sq ft JFO, DRC locations, Mobilization Centers, Staging Areas, and

Receiving Areas.

Coordinate with Mt. Weather, Mobile Emergency Response Support (MERS) and Disaster Response (DR) Team in facility

layout and cabling and resource planning.

Oversee the design and setup of the network infrastructure and telecommunications.

Establish policy guidelines for staff regarding acceptable connectivity procedures for personnel from other Federal

agencies, the State, volunteer agencies, and contractors wanting to access their respective networks, email, etc

Oversee the IT support to Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs), Promote a teamwork environment that encourages

Direct daily operations of department, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting

deadlines.

Conduct performance appraisals and assessments for staff members.

TECHNICAL DUTIES

Evaluate, install, move, maintain and support staff, state and local government computer hardware/software, Windows

client Operating System, HP printers, plotters and related peripherals.

Perform computer workstation and network installations and moves including cabling, access points, routers, and switches.

Create, restore, and update PC images on workstation and field personnel computers with Symantec Ghost and disk

cloning.

Perform duties related to network administration including the creation of network accounts, user groups, assign privileges,

and maintain network security and integrity.

Assist and train new IT staff, internal and field personnel, contractors, State and local government, and other government

agencies in the use of hardware equipment and software.

Skilled in communicating highly technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Proactively identify project bottlenecks and recommend immediate, practical and cost-effective solutions on site.
