process engineering, and quality activities for this privately held
manufacturer of magnet and nonferrous wire products used in motors,
transformers, and coils for power generation, consumer, and industrial
goods. Managed the quality control lab and process engineering group (15
people) and maintained the departmental budgets. Managed customer
relationships in claims and provided technical sales support in RFQ and new
product development. Performed risk assessments. Developed and prepared
PPAP(s) and APQP packages. Led and managed the collection and evaluation of
products and analysis of resources and capabilities (competitive
analysis/benchmarking), working with sales/marketing to assess product
performance within customer applications to fulfill customer needs. Managed
and implemented process improvement and development projects to improve
efficiencies and capabilities through process redesign, equipment
enhancements, standardizing processes, and implementing new equipment and
processes. Assessed and developed suppliers through audits, assessing
capability, incoming testing and inspection, and developing action plans
for supplier improvements. Served as plant Ergonomic Engineer and also
acted as interim Las Cruces Operations Manager and served as backup to the
VP of Quality.
Select contributions:
< Trimmed scrap. Implemented procedures and controls to create an
approximately 50% reduction in scrap, equating to an overall scrap
savings of $500,000 per year and $1.2M corporate wide.
< Reduced customer quality returns. Reduced customer returns from
approximately 1800 PPM to 200 PPM by working with and educating
manufacturing staff and end-use customers, evolving mindset regarding
quality checks and controls, and standardizing processes and procedures.
< Minimized changeover times. Led Kaizen event(s) to reduce machine
downtime, scrap, and operating inefficiencies. Result(s) included an
increase in manufacturing capacity and flexibility and reduction in
changeover times by 33% along with increased production yields.
< Improved range of production capabilities. Reengineered processes to
accommodate the production of larger wire sizes increasing equipment
flexibility and production capacity to fulfill customer requirements and
requests.
< Improved Processes. Managed and led project to design and cost-
effectively build a new external lubricant application process proven to
produce higher quality wire, resulting in a large reduction in customer
complaints. Units were approved for corporate-wide use.
< Developed Processes to increase efficiency. Worked with Corporate Quality
to develop and implement a quick method to measure product quality during
equipment changeovers and start-ups, reducing scrap and downtime and
improving efficiency. New process/equipment was then implemented to
facilities in Mexico and China.
