Re: Landman - Houston, TX

Dear Madam or Sir:

Please accept this letter and the attached resume for consideration

for the above-referenced Landman position currently listed on your website.

I am a licensed attorney with an extensive background in surface land

titles, acquisitions and related issues, property rights and contracts

preparation, analysis and revision. While seeking an opportunity to

transition into in-house oil & gas land administration and titles, I am

currently assisting clients with legal matters and field landman services.

My most recent project (completed this week) was to assist an oil &

gas client in acquiring a drilling site, and included site and aerial map

review of the pooled area, researching land ownership, contacting numerous

landowners to identify a willing seller, preparing and negotiating a

purchase contract, researching the feasibility of installing a salt-water

disposal line within a county right-of-way, negotiation with government

officials, issuing a title opinion on the selected site, preparing all

title curative and conveyance documents, and closing the transaction.

Other recent relevant projects have been to assist with the sale of mineral

interests in California, and to assist an engineering client with the

review and revision of a subcontract for engineering services on a refinery

in Utah.

My background in land matters includes more than 10 years of in-depth

experience reviewing land title documents and abstracts, issuing title

opinions, researching county land records, analyzing title defects,

drafting land title conveyance documents and preparing other curative

documents to assure marketable title. The bulk of such experience pertains

to surface land titles, but also includes substantial familiarity with oil

and gas leasehold and mineral title-related agreements. Handling such

matters, with the inherent liabilities, obviously requires keen attention

to detail.

In addition to land matters, I have also been involved in contracts

work for most of my career - drafting, revising and negotiating

agreements for acquisitions, sales and leases of real property,

easements/ROWs, engineering design and construction projects, commercial

real estate leases, business acquisitions and mergers, mortgages and

financing documents, consulting and non-disclosure/confidentiality

agreements, and many types of contracts.

Over the years I have represented many land professionals handling

legal issues arising in the course of development projects, from planning

to completion, including land acquisitions, survey and plat review, due

diligence research, rights-of-way encroachments, lot splits, subdivisions,

zoning matters, financing, landlord/tenant disputes, reviewing

environmental reports, coordinating with surveyors and engineers, handling

construction law issues and contractor disputes, real estate litigation,

appearing before planning commissions, city councils and other government

officials to obtain necessary site, permit and project approvals, enforcing

restrictive covenants, and resolving the numerous unexpected matters that

often arise in connection with such projects.

My background in land matters and contracts is extensive and broad-

based. In addition, I spent the early years of my legal career in a

litigation practice, which required that I develop solid skills in

presenting cases before courts and other judicial bodies, negotiating

settlements, and researching and developing a thorough understanding of

diverse and often complex issues. These are skills that I know a senior

landman must have. I firmly believe that my experience and skills would

enable me to provide immediate and valuable assistance to an in-house oil &

gas land administration team.

I would be most pleased with an opportunity to discuss with your

company's representative whether my background might provide a good fit for

this career opportunity. Certainly, I can provide employment and character

references at your request.

Very truly yours,

Robert W. Jones
