April 2010- Naturalist, Ward Melville Heritage Organization
Present Taught about salt marsh ecosystem, flora and fauna. Classes
were part of a distance learning program with K-12 classes and
guided boat tours through Stony Brook Harbor.
Aug. 2009- Teaching Assistant, Stony Brook University
Present Taught an undergraduate introduction to physical oceanography
course and an
undergraduate chemistry lab. Duties included teaching weekly
labs, study sessions and proctoring exams.

Responsibilities included interviewing recreational fishermen

Project studied the influence of recruitment spillover of
invertebrates from marine protected areas to understand their
effectiveness. Responsibilities included collecting field
measurements, organism breeding, measuring recruit density and
DNA extraction of frozen tissues.
Feb. 2006- Research Assistant, Lab of Dr. Robert Warner/PISCO Otolith Lab
April 2007 University of California, Santa Barbara
Project studied recruitment patterns and otolith microchemistry
of fish larvae at the Channel Islands. Responsibilities
included measuring and recording species, length, and number of
fish larvae, constructing field sampling equipment and data
entry.

Project studied long-term Channel Islands fish and invertebrate
population dynamics. Responsibilities included sorting,
washing and preserving samples, microscope counting and

Project studied the importance of off-shore oil platforms as

June 2003 Project monitored ongoing kelp restoration efforts at Crystal
Cove State Park. Responsibilities included monthly measuring
of fish and invertebrate population densities while on SCUBA.
Fellowships and Awards:
2006 Worster Award, University of California, Santa Barbara.
Used to fund a sampling in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, summer
2006. The research contributed to my senior thesis.
2011 SoMAS Award, Stony Brook University.
Will be used to fund study abroad in Belize, summer 2011.
