2/2008-Present
Biomass feedstock, biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis and
fermentation
. Designed and run experiments, developed data processing protocols and
wrote technical reports.
. Developed testing protocols & analyses methods for lab and pilot plant
experiments implemented and evaluated standard analytical methods such
as NREL and TAPPI methods.
. Managed external collaborations (Auburn University) reviewing
experimental design, analytical methods and reports.
Postdoctoral Fellow Georgia Institute of Technology
10/2001-6/2005
. Recyclable Based-and Top-Coat Formulations for the Optimization of
Water Vapor Transmission Resistance and Liquid Barrier Properties
Developed testing criteria, performanced analyses on boxes coated by
recycled PET as a replacement for wax; developed high aspect ratio clays
and nano-structured pigments; designed and modified coating formulations
of the recycled PET to improve physical and barrier properties and
repulpability & recyclability of paper/paperboard. The formulations have
passed plant trials in Imerys, GA.
Inkjet coatings
Developed polymer binders (especially PVOH), prepared nano-structured
pigments, and designed formulations to improve inkjet-receptive media
properties such as ink density, gloss, opacity, and brightness.
PLA (Poly lactic acid) for paper coatings-Barrier Coatings
Evaluated PLA for paper/paperboard coating, PLA modified PET polyester
resins for paper/paperboard coatings.
Nanostructured cellulosic materials by bioprocess-enzyme
Conducted a series of experiments on nano-structured cellulosic
materials for paper industry, and designed the manufacturing process
using wood pulp as feed and Cellulase enzyme.
Visiting Scientist EvCo Research, LLC, Atlanta, GA
7/2005-1/2008
Development of Coating Technology
. Synthesized and modified environmental-friendly PET Polyesters from
cycled PET; designed formulations for papermaking and paper coatings
to improve physical and chemical properties of paper/paperboard from
various pulps. The formulations have passed plant trials in UK,
Canada, USA and China, and are being commercialized.
. Designed and formulated PET Polyesters for paper/paperboard coating,
and developed testing criteria
