1983-2010 The Modesto Bee Newspaper - Facilities Manager; Risk Manager;
Security Operations Manager, Modesto, California
As Facilities Manager I held the overall responsibility for the daily
maintenance and care of the main facility, surrounding grounds, and
multiple off-site properties. Responsibilities included (but never limited
to) the following:
. Annual facility operating expense budget and review and approval of
expenditures
. Supervision of building and grounds, janitorial and security staff
. Managed cafeteria food services, fitness center and office space
planning & moves
. Ordered all facility related supplies and office furniture
. Scheduling and oversight of facilities general maintenance and repairs
. Managed and negotiated costs for contracted services and offsite real-
estate leasing
. Project management related to the growth, relocation, and eventual
closure of the facility
As Risk Manager I managed the Health and Safety program for four of 30
McClatchy owned newspapers, The Modesto Bee, Merced Sun-Star, The Los Banos
Enterprise and The Chowchilla News. Responsibilities included (but never
limited to) the following:
. Workers Compensation program and cross trained in Human Resource
relations
. Safety trainings and office ergonomic evaluations & education
. Accident investigations
. Management of multiple health and safety programs
. Safe guarding and evaluations of production equipment for employee
safety
. Compliance management for all regulatory & environmental issues (OSHA,
EPA, City, County and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution District) as
well as the handling of all hazardous waste generated at all managed
sites.
As Security Operations Manager I proved security protection for 600
employees, I hired, trained, scheduled, and supervised the security staff,
maintained the department budget, completed security surveys & evaluations
of company properties and completed internal investigations for the Human
Resources Department. Responsibilities included (but never limited to) the
following:
. Risk & threat assessments and maintained the asset protection program
. Care for the CCTV system, access control equipment and the facility
key control
. Emergency responses, alarm monitoring, and the executive
transportation program
. Served as Incident Commander during facility emergencies and responded
to medical assists

1983 - 1987 Waterford Police Department - Reserve Police Sergeant,
Waterford, California
. Assigned to patrol and traffic enforcement
. Conducted investigations for criminal, traffic and city employment
backgrounds
. Supervised reserve patrol officers, the reserve program and the
