- Henderson County Community Hospital, Lexington, TN. Responsible for month-
end closing activities for the Hospital, Physician Practices, and Ambulance
Service including related financial reporting to Senior Management at the
Facility and the Corporate Office. As Interim Controller, I worked with
the CFO and was nvolved in researching, analyzing, and preparing data for
the budget process, internal audit, and strategic plan slide presentation.

As CFO, my responsibilities included all accounting, budgetary and
financial planning activities within the Hospital organization. The 100 Bed
facility provided acute, sub-acute, and adult psychiatric services. In
addition, I served as the Compliance Officer for all entities. Reporting
departments were: Hospital Information Systems, Materials Management,
Business Office, Case management, Information Systems, Physician Practices,
Plant Operations, Housekeeping, Dietary, and Accounting Services. The
Hospital was purchased by our competition and ceased operations as of July
15, 2009. I remained until November 13, 2009 to complete the transition.
Accomplishments
. EBITDA - Emerged from a $1 Million loss in 2008 to profitability in
2009. In 2008 outpatient surgery and diagnostic outpatient visits
declined due to the opening of an Outpatient Surgery Center and 2
Urgent Care Centers. We renegotiated 3rd Party Payer contracts for
improved reimbursement, reduced overall expenses by $250 per patient
day and secured state grants totaling $100K. No SOX audit issues or
E&Y Audit adjustments.
. Salaries & Benefits - Staff reductions & control of man hours per
adjusted admissions - Reduction $600,000
. Bad Debt expense as a percent of Net Revenue - Reduction - 2.5%
. Cost Savings program - Implemented a program utilizing employee
participation - Reduction $160,000
. Rental Space Reduction - Eliminated 7 storage units, sold used
equipment, & put stored furniture into service in lieu of new -
$45,000.
. Business Office Consolidation - Consolidated Business Office
function with sister facility. Annual reduction - $100,000
. Supplies - Reduced surgical implant costs through costing out cases
prior to scheduling. Also secured surgeon buy-in to preferred
vendors and renegotiated vendor letters of commitment. - Reduction -
$500,000.

As the CFO for this for-profit long-term acute-care hospital of 64 beds, my
responsibilities included the preparation, planning, organizing, directing,
and coordinating of all financial related operations. Departments
reporting to me were Accounting, Business Office, HIM, IS, Payroll, AP,
Purchasing, and Administrative Operations.
Accomplishments:
. In addition to duties at Kindred Hospital Fort Lauderdale, also served
as CFO of a sister hospital in Green Cove Springs for a year.
. Converted legacy PFS system to Meditech, exceeding collection goals
with no interruption in service.
. Converted financial systems to SAP from legacy DOS-based system
. Implemented automated billing technology, resulting in collection of
old accounts previously reserved without expectation of collection -
$2M
